Cobra KING F7 Driver Review - PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas DAY 10 Giveaway

Let’s be honest.  We’ve all grabbed a driver from our bag, stuck a tee into the ground, and then had no idea what was about to happen next.  Our ball might go left and it might go right.  We might hit it high and we might hit it low.  Stepping into the tee box can sometimes be like pulling the arm on a Vegas slot machine.  You just hope for the best.

Cobra Golf's KING F7 driver takes random chance out of the equation and hits the jackpot with a three gold bar payout in distance, forgiveness, and adjustability - making it one of my top performing drivers of the year.  It leaves no doubt in all-around performance and will give you confidence to take dead aim and fire away without inhibition.

The F7 first seized my attention at the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show, and I gave you some glowing reports back then about my experience with it.  It was long, forgiving, easy to hit, and earned a top spot in my best new game-improvement drivers at Demo Day.  I was eager to take it out long-term on a course however, as testing a club for one range session is a completely different animal than actually putting it in play.

It didn't disappoint.  I drove a green almost 300 yards out my first round playing it, and hit a torrent of long drives all season.  The ball explodes off the face like the head is packed with gunpowder, and combined with the stock Fujikura PRO shaft it kicks like a mule.  I nicknamed my F7 "Blue Lightning" on the first day.  I should point out here that I played this at 10.5* with the heaviest 12 gram weight in the back (more on adjustability later).

The problem with drivers that produce obscenely long distance however, is that your misses unfortunately are often robbed of significant ball speed.  I'm happy to report that's just not the case with the F7.  Cobra calls the sweet spot on the face the "Sweet Zone," but honestly I don't care what it's called - it's one of the largest of any driver I played or tested all year.

Misses anywhere close to center fly like perfect strikes, and even the occasional butcher job on balls hit in towards the heel or out towards the toe still unleashes incredible distance.  The F7 is clearly a driver that's weaponized for extreme power and forgiveness.

What makes the F7 a triple threat however, is its considerable adjustability.  Lofts can be changed from 9* to 12* and three removable weights around the sole ports decidedly influence launch, spin, and distance.  It's not a gimmick, and seeing is believing.

I experienced about two to three degrees lower launch just by moving the heaviest 12 gram weight from the back to front.  This change had an impact on forgiveness, but also delivered a more penetrating ball flight and my longest total distances with lower spin and more roll out, albeit less carry.  I used the heavy weight in the front port when I was hitting the ball really well, and on days when winds were particularly blustery.

Positioning the heaviest weight in the draw port produced a remarkable effect on ball direction, and will positively help players who suffer from chronic slicing.  I saw a 20 yard, right-to-left movement on shots hit with the 12 gram weight set in the heel compared to the back, which honestly, was just insane.  The draw port also produced more carry and roll compared to the back setting.

This kind of adjustability to unlock extra distance or more forgiveness, and order up a setting that profoundly impacts ball flight makes the F7 one of the most dynamic drivers I've ever hit, and one that any golfer can use to fine tune their game from the tee.

Finally, as if the F7 wasn't already way too much fun to hit, Cobra includes their Cobra Connect GPS tracking system built into the grip.  Powered by an Arccos sensor that's triggered by the sound of your ball hitting the club, you can track your driving stats, use it as a rangefinder to get yardages, and even receive video tips from Cobra staffers like Rickie Fowler when your driving patterns emerge.

The Cobra KING F7 is one of the best drivers to come around in many years, and I call it "The People's Champ" because of its broad appeal to such a large variety of golfers.  It gives you the kind of distance, forgiveness, and adjustability you've always wanted, and lets you step into the tee box expecting great shots instead of just hoping for them.

PROS:
A fairway finder with imposing distance
Arguably the simplest, most effective adjustability of any driver on the market
Stock Fujikura PRO shaft is icing on the cake

CONS:
I've racked my brain all season to think of some, but honestly there aren't any
