Golfers are an finicky bunch.  We fall in love with our putters almost as quickly as we fall out of love with them.  I'd like to tell you the Piretti Firenze Black Onyx putter will once and for all put an end to your compulsive putter buying binges, but I can't.  Putting your hands on the new Firenze is just going to feed an insatiable obsession to keep buying Piretti masterpieces for the rest of your life. 

 

Let me give it to you straight.  The Firenze is one of the best putters you'll ever hit.  Today, tomorrow, seriously... forever.  Incredible distance control and stability makes it almost foolproof.  A heavier head and deep milled grooves create exceptional roll.  And the soft, pure sensation off the face combined with its sleek and powerful appearance makes Firenze a flat-out game changer. 

In a saturated putter market where most putters look and behave like zebras blending in with, well... other zebras, Firenze is the attacking lion out on a hunt after the dinner bell has rung.  Milled from a solid billet of 11L17 carbon steel, the Firenze lets you dial it in from long range and punch it in from short range with predictable results.  Pull the Firenze from your bag and your playing partners will start sweating with a paranoia that you'll make every putt you attempt the rest of the round.  You'll make A LOT of them. 

 

The face-balanced, half mallet Firenze weighs in with a 375-gram head, and granted, heavier heads in general can be too explosive off the face.  More weight can make it tough to differentiate between center and off-center hits.  With the Firenze however, you literally couldn't roll the ball with your hand and have better distance control or feedback.  Piretti doesn't do heavy just for the sake of heavy, it does heavy by putting weight in the right places to make heavy better and promote a perfectly rhythmic stroke with a solid dose of consistency.  

 

 

Balls hit anywhere near the middle of the face track with deadly accuracy from all ranges.  Just line it up and watch it drop.  Even if you don't have a repeatable putting stroke, mishits still produce a tight roll and remain on target with little twisting.  Inside five feet, center hits and mishits are nearly identical in speed and roll.  From 10 to 15 feet mishits might lose a couple inches at worst.  The Firenze is an extremely forgiving putter across the entire face for golfers of all abilities. 

 

Firenze's milled face is sculpted with deep, swirling ellipses that will excite your senses.  Grooves are prominently deeper than other milled putters, and that's primarily a performance advantage to create more topspin, but there's no denying this birdie maker is also visually provocative. 

Smooth angles and chiseled lines are clean and gratifying.  The white, single-line sightline makes it easy to square up on the sweet spot with no gimmicks to complicate things.  You can be confident knowing your aim at the target is accurate.  And three signature red lion emblems in the cavity that embody Piretti's resolute commitment to luxury craftsmanship are just bad-ass. 

 

 

Not surprisingly, Firenze's feel is also an aphrodisiac.  With a soft, but lively sensation off the face, it delivers incredible feedback to your hands and instantly communicates the quality of your stroke.  The sound of your ball rattling around the cup is almost as satisfying as the crisp click at impact that guides your ball to the hole. 

 

 

 

Gorgeous and talented?  It's almost not fair.  The Piretti Firenze Black Onyx checks off both boxes with undeniably seductive looks and decidedly amazing performance. 

PROS: 

Ridiculously easy to swing on line 
Nearly automatic inside 10 feet 
Outstanding looks, feel, and all-around performance make it a winner for a variety of players 

CONS: 
It might take some players time to get used to a heavier weight 
More expensive than most putters on the market
