Mitsubishi Diamana ZF Shaft Review: PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway

The Mitsubishi Diamana shaft is one of the most iconic, historic, and successful products in golf history.  And somehow, Mitsubishi managed to actually raise the bar even higher with the new Diamana ZF shaft.

I've hit some of the longest drives of my entire life with the Diamana ZF, and would play it for the increased accuracy alone to be honest.  ZF is flat out explosive, and you pretty much can feel the power in your hands after you bomb a few down the fairway.

I reviewed the Diamana ZF shaft for you earlier this season on twitter and Instagram.  And as always, answered all your questions as I was out testing the ZF over a period of a few weeks.

And since one of you is about to win your very own Diamana ZF in my 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway, I'm going to circle back here and give you the highlights on why I believe this shaft can single-handedly transform your driver game from tee-box jitters to tee-box fearlessness.

The new Mitsubishi Diamana ZF is going to be a dream shaft for many players with a profile that falls between the BF and DF.  It's almost like a beefed up BF with a stiffer handle and tip for more stability, but you feel a slightly softer middle with a more pronounced kick.

ZF is stout feeling for sure, but not too stout.  And definitely not boardy.  In fact, you get almost a springboard feel at impact with the Diamana ZF.  There should be fireworks going off to celebrate the kind of monster distance (carry and roll) you get.

Some people will say the ZF shaft compares more with the BF profile, while others will say it compares better with the DF.  I think you can look at the Diamana ZF like a more stable BF, but also like a more lively DF. So I'll try to compare the ZF performance with both for you.

My drives with the Diamana ZF shaft gave me a flatter, more boring trajectory than the BF, but with a comparably smooth BF feel and ease of launch.  The Diamana ZF is also more anti-hook than BF, but I wouldn’t call it anti-left.  You can still turn the ball over and carve it both ways.

You can also look at the Diamana ZF shaft as more like a DF profile launch because of the lower spin.  ZF and DF launch are very similar, with the ZF launching just slightly higher than the DF.  I'm not sure there's a huge amount of difference between these two shafts with roll-out, but I definitely got more roll-out with the ZF shaft over the BF.  And compared to the DF, ZF also has a firmer  butt and a livelier feeling through impact, like it loads up more.

Finally, I know a lot of you also play Mitsubishi Tensei series shafts, so here are a few things I learned comparing Tensei to the Diamana ZF.

Compared to Tensei Blue AV (one of my favorite shafts by the way)  the Diamana ZF is similarly low spin, (surprisingly) slightly higher launching, and with a bit more carry and roll.  Compared to the Tensei White on the other hand, the ZF will launch a bit higher, but kicks more through the middle of the shaft and just feels more stable overall.

You guys know I test and play an enormous amount of equipment throughout the year.  And I always just like to answer your specific questions and give you the performance facts from my experience.  But I have to also say this time the Diamana ZF is the best Mitsubishi shaft I've ever hit.

If I was looking to buy a new driver off the rack without a fitting, I'd honestly be grabbing the drivers with the Diamana ZF shafts first, rather than looking at specific club-heads.  And when I'm playing to compete, you can be sure this is going straight in my bag.

PROS:
Smooth feel of the Diamana BF with better overall performance
Gobbles up fairways with exceptional distance
Incredibly accurate and stable feeling shaft
40 gram option lets slower swingers also join the party
Extremely cool graphics and finish

CONS:
It's really tough for me to come up with any cons because I loved everything about the Diamana ZF.  So I'll just say no product will ever please everyone.  And that's all I have to say about that.

  9. Thanks for the well rounded review. If I happen to acquire this shaft through you, I would be very grateful and excited to have Bill, my equipment guy, install it in my Mizuno 10.5 driver head, assuming it's a driver shaft, not a 3 wood. Merry Christmas, Pete. πŸ™Œ
