Club Champion Putter Fitting Review and Custom Built Putter 2026 Masters Giveaway

There is no single magic formula to win The Masters but putting is always the separator at Augusta National.  Augusta greens are lightning fast with subtle breaks and you need to capitalize on scoring opportunities and avoid three-putts.

So I've teamed up with Club Champion this year for my Masters Giveaway to send one of you in for a Club Champion putter fitting and custom built putter of your choice.  Wherever it is you play this season Club Champion is going to make sure your new putter is perfectly matched to your stroke, your eyes, and your tendencies.  And that means you're going to be starting putts on line more consistently and controlling distance better than you ever have before.

In this review I'm going to go over what you can expect from a Club Champion putter fitting.  My focus will be on the Club Champion fitter however as much as the Club Champion process.  Club Champion uses SAM PuttLab in their fittings with advanced precision.  It measures things like face angle at impact, stroke path, tempo and timing, and consistency to name just a few metrics.

And when a master Club Champion fitter takes over that's when the magic happens.  Your fitter isn't going to just hand you a few putters, watch you roll them, and then make recommendations.  A Club Champion fitter is diagnosing and prescribing throughout your entire fitting.  And it's the combination of science, insight, craftsmanship, and expertise that makes a Club Champion fitting the gold standard.

SAM PuttLab

Club Champion uses SAM PuttLab to measure and track more than 70 parameters of your putting stroke.  And it takes just seven putts for SAM PuttLab to collect all your data and get a baseline reading of your swing.  I won't list all the metrics but it's analyzing your face angle at impact (open, closed, or square), the path of your stroke (square or arced), your tempo and timing, your impact location and impact consistency, how your putter head rotates into and through impact, you loft, lie, and shaft delivery and a lot more.  SAM PuttLab is a full body MRI of your putting stroke.

Recommendations are then made looking at seven categories including: Head Type (based on your takeaway, forward stroke, and path arc); Head Balance (which shows where your putter face is during your entire stroke); Shaft Configuration (this is ultimately an analysis of your aim); Putter Length (ensuring the line from your eyes over the ball is ideal for your setup and posture); Putter Loft (recommending an ideal loft based on how you deliver the putter to the ball); Putter Lie (affecting where you strike the ball both toe-to-heel and top-to-bottom); and Grip Type (grip size differences can quiet your hands or make a handsy stroke even more handsy).

The DNA of a Club Champion Master Fitter

For a more detailed look at these seven categories check out the review I wrote here.  And ultimately Club Champion uses SAM PuttLab as an all-inclusive analysis of your stroke from roll to grip.  However any putter fitter can use SAM PuttLab right?

And that's why as I mentioned earlier I'm focusing this review on my Club Champion putter fitter Mike in Warrensville Heights, Ohio.  He's a maestro of flatstick fitting, turns strokes into poetry, and is truly a cut above the rest by a mile.

Thorough and Comprehensive Understanding of Putting Mechanics

Mike puts you into an ideal putter for your stroke because he understands how things like stroke path, face angle, tempo, and impact affects what the ball does on your putts.  His understanding of putting mechanics certainly takes into account the kind of stroke you have (arc, straight back-straight through) and your tendencies.

But a fitting with Mike goes above and beyond that because he's also constantly and keenly watching what you're doing and seeing what you're doing with your stroke.  And that's part of the reason why (and how) Mike connects you to a putter with the right characteristics for your stroke (toe-hang, face balance, offset, etc).  Mike reminds me a bit of a NASCAR crew chief with technical expertise building and tuning cars based on his racer's feedback.

Mastery of Fitting Technology but not an Over-Reliance on It

Sam PuttLab identifies three primary putter head types, blade, mallet, and square (wide) and recommends a particular head type after analyzing all your data.  But that doesn't necessarily mean that's the putter head your Club Champion fitter will put you in.  Sam PuttLab might recommend a blade putter for example but you might prefer the look of a square (wider) putter.

Mike takes that into consideration and then starts finding different square putters and making tweaks to them (weight, hosel types, sight lines) that translates into your ideal performance.  Mike isn't merely reading SAM PuttLab numbers, he's interpreting them and still putting you into a putter with ideal face rotation, launch, and roll even if it's not what Sam PuttLab initially recommends.

Strong Knowledge of Equipment Design and Focus on Results not Brands

Part of my job as a golf equipment reviewer is to know the technologies and performance differences of the many clubs I test and review.  And I'm always incredibly impressed with Mike's knowledge of club technology and design.  Any question I've ever asked Mike he's had an answer to.  He understands how head shapes and alignment aids and shaft positions all interact and can explain how they are different from one putter model to the next and what that means for your stroke.

A Club Champion fitting with Mike goes beyond adjusting length, lie, loft, grip, and weighting.  Mike treats your fitting and ultimately your putter like a precision instrument specifically tailored to you.  And that's also why Mike and all Club Champion fitters never push any particular brand.  Whether you wind up with a Ping, or Odyssey, or Scotty, or TaylorMade putter Mike and Club Champion's goal is always finding what performs best for you

Process Driven Approach and Clear Communication

Putting can be just as psychological as it is mechanical and Mike understands that.  He pays attention to and asks what looks good to your eye, what gives you the most confidence standing over the ball.  And then he balances technical optimization with what you trust.  SAM PuttLab can recommend a perfect putter on paper, but it's really the Club Champion fitter's attention to your needs and wants that also make you love it and give you complete confidence in it.

And that leads into another aspect of a Club Champion putter fitting with Mike.  It's never rushed.  You can hit as many putters as you want.  Mike will explain why one putter works and other doesn't in as simple or complex terms as you want.  He will test, adjust, retest, and validate results with every putter you try.  And he'll show you and directly compare performance between all putters you try.  As I mentioned above the entire Club Champion fitting is about your complete satisfaction.  So Mike is open and willing to explore multiple putter options even when SAM PuttLab doesn't suggest it.  Absolute performance is what always drives Mike in your Club Champion putter fitting process.

Conclusion

If you're trying to shave strokes off your game a Club Champion putter fitting is one of the best tools available.  There's no guessing in a Club Champion putter fitting.  Only objective proof.  The fitting will show what you're actually doing with your putter versus what you think you're doing with your putter.  And it will take you from "this feels good" to "this actually works."  Club Champion is serious about your stroke, relentless about your results, and will fit you with obsession.
