Callaway Announces New Apex UT, Apex UW, and Apex Ti Super Hybrid Clubs

That spot between your driver and longest iron is an area of frustration for many players.  Woods can be tough to hit consistently or control.  Hybrids often don't have enough power to make them worthwhile.  And long iron precision can all too often be empty words and broken promises.  Callaway Golf is about to change all of that.

Callaway has announced their new Apex Utility Irons, Apex Utility Woods, and Apex Ti Super Hybrids.  The Apex UT is designed for players who demand precision and high ball speed.  The Apex UW is designed for players who want the power of a fairway wood and versatility of a hybrid.  And the Apex Ti Super Hybrid is designed for players who struggle off the tee or can't find consistency with their woods.

For better players and game-improvement golfers each of the new clubs have specific technologies to deliver performance that conquers those frustrations at the top of your bag.  There's a lot to unpack here.  So let's get right to it.

Apex UT: The Right Tool for the Job

The new Callaway Apex Utility iron features technologies Callaway has bee working on for years and it's definitely different than utility irons Callaway has released in the past.  Apex UT is a six piece construction utility iron and Callaway particularly focused on face deflection.

FlexCore Technology

FlexCore in the new Apex UT improves ball speed and spin consistency by delivering even greater deflection, particularly low on the face.  In testing Callaway saw extremely repeatable downrange distance and spin.

This is going to be ideal for players looking to hit specific and exact yardages.  So whether you need a go-to on a par-3 or simply need a fairway finder, the Apex UT is going to make doing this things easier and consistently easier.

Forged Hollow Body Construction

Callaway has used forged body constructions in the past.  And for the new Apex UT this construction is delivering another way to improve deflection as well as providing an extremely soft feel as well.  While Apex UT are certainly going to be favored by better players, these will also be ideal for players looking to create more forgiveness at the top of their irons sets.  And with lofts as high as 24 degrees this can be a legitimate stand-alone long iron replacement.

Apex Ti Super Hybrid: Power and Stability United

Callaway has designed super hybrid type clubs in the past.  They were typically titanium construction (which delivers the higher ball speeds you want).  These designs were full body titanium and this meant having to create more mass inside the head.  It was usually accomplished with MIM weighting.  But this sacrificed some stability and forgiveness in performance.

Brazed Titanium Face

So Callaway used its proprietary Ti-Fusion technology (from their Ti-Fusion irons) to create Ti-Fusion faces in the Apex Ti Super Hybrids.  This lets Callaway put the titanium in strategic places in the face for ball speeds but also support this with a steel body.  And the result is a stronger, more stable and forgiving body to go along with the higher ball speeds.

Step Sole Design

Step Sole technology has been used in previous Callaway designs you're probably familiar with (like the Elyte fairy woods).  The Step Sole Design is a way to improve turf interaction and its transition to the Apex Ti Super Hybrid has been nothing short of triumphant.

Callaway saw very positive test results with Step Sole in the Apex Ti Super Hybrid from both Tour pros and amateurs alike.  The sole reduces contact area with the turf, which in turn minimizes skidding and drag.  And the result is a Super Hybrid that retains ball speed better, moves more consistently and cleaner through the turf, and improves performance from a variety of lies.

Refined Shape

The shape of Callaway's original Super Hybrid had somewhat of a cult following.  So Callaway took inspiration from this shape for the new Ti Super Hybrid.

The new shape will appeal to game-improvement players, golfers looking for more power, and even those who struggle to hit fairway woods in general (think steep angles of attack).

Apex UW: Versatility Meets Forgiveness

The new Apex UW stayed true to the general shape of Callaway's shaping of utility woods and general idea you want it to be very versatile with high ball speeds.  But it's been supercharged with new technologies.

Step Sole Design

Similarly to its use in the Apex Ti Super Hybrids, the Apex UW also features a Step Sole design to improve impact locations on the face, and give you more speed along with improved launch and spin conditions.

Tungsten Speed Wave

The Tungsten Speed Wave allows Callaway to put tungsten low and forward.  But with the Apex UW it's also lifted and suspended from the sole which creates more deflection and more flex low on the face.  And this translates to better performance on any contact below center line.  The versatility and neutral ball flight of Apex UW will benefit players of all abilities.

Conclusion

Not too long ago a golf utility referred to one club.  But when you think about it the new Callaway Apex UT, Apex UW, and Apex Ti Super Hybrid are all utility clubs.  Each of the gives you more of what you want in an iron, wood, and hybrid and makes it also easier to achieve.

I'll have a full on-course review for you on all these clubs soon.  In the meantime check out the Callaway website for info on specs and options.  And as always I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
