A Legend Returns: 2019 Callaway Golf Big Bertha Irons and Hybrids Preview

The Big Bertha name has always been synonymous with innovation, technology, and fun.  And this epic name might be pushing the boundaries of what's possible to such an extent that it could transform an entire category of golf clubs.

Callaway Golf will be releasing their next generation Big Bertha irons and hybrids as soon as the calendar flips to January, and if you're a player looking for maximum distance, launch, and forgiveness all in one package, these easy-to-hit clubs promise to meet your every single need.

Big Bertha Irons - Features and Benefits

  • Suspended Energy Core - The Suspended Energy Core is the engine of the new Big Bertha irons.  With a revolutionary new construction that suspends a metal injection molded (MIM) tungsten weight that uses proprietary urethane microspheres, Callaway has designed irons that deliver extremely easy launch, long consistent distance, and incredible sound and feel.

  • 360 Face Cup - An innovative 360 Face Cup employs a flexible rim around the face that flexes and releases at impact to increase ball speed.  By using high launch angles generated by the Suspended Energy Core, Callaway has designed their thinnest face cup for increased speeds that promote longer distance.
  • Smoked PVD Finish - To match the premium design of the Big Bertha, Callaway has given it an unforgettable look with a clean smoked PVD finish.
The Big Bertha irons will be available with new Recoil ESX and Recoil ZT9 graphite shafts ($1,300), and KBS Max 90 steel shafts ($1,200).

Big Bertha Hybrids - Features and Benefits

  • Jailbreak Technology - Callaway's revolutionary Jailbreak Technology incorporates two internal bars that stiffen the body, placing more impact load on the face to promote fast ball speed and long distance.
  • Hyper Speed Face Cup - An ultra-thin, Carpenter 455 steel face is extremely fast, and when combined with the Hyper Speed Face Cup, it promotes fast speed across the entire face for long distances on center and off-center hits.

  • New OptiFit Hosel - To combine Jailbreak and adjustability for the first time in a hybrid, Callaway developed an entirely new hostel system that's shorter and lighter.  That allows weight to be saved and re-positioned to optimize Center of Gravity for easy launch and high, long-carrying flight.
  • New Progressive Shaping - Big Bertha features a progressive head shape that’s both forgiving and appealing, and packed with high MOI technology.
The Big Bertha hybrids will be available in models ranging from 3 to 8, and come with premium Recoil ESX and ZT9 graphite shafts ($269) to further enhance feel and control.
