Maclauchlan Ousts Top Seed; Co-Medalists Russell, Patel Reach Final Eight 8 at Saucon Valley

Co-Medalist Patel Advances to Final 32 in Dramatic Fashion; Top 2 Seeds Jones, Russell Roll at Saucon Valley

Three down after four holes. Facing the No. 62 seed whose résumé is far better than a player barely qualifying for match play and a world ranking 554 spots higher.

That was the predicament co-medalist/No. 3 seed Sohan Patel found himself in during the Round of 64 on Wednesday in the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur on Saucon Valley Country Club’s Old Course. But the left-hander from Weston, Fla., illustrated the kind of intestinal fortitude it takes to hoist the Tiger Woods Trophy come late Saturday afternoon.

Baltusrol Golf Club Awarded 2046 U.S. Open, Three Additional Future USGA Championships

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced that Baltusrol Golf Club, in Springfield, N.J., will host four future USGA championships: the 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur, the 2039 U.S. Amateur, the 2046 U.S. Open and a U.S. Women's Open at a date to be determined later.

The additions build on one of the deepest championship histories in American golf. Baltusrol's 16 previous USGA championships — seven U.S. Opens, four U.S. Amateurs, two U.S. Women's Opens, two U.S. Women's Amateurs and the 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur — already rank fourth-most of any club, behind only Merion, Oakmont and The Country Club. The 2033 Mid-Amateur will mark a first for the club, while the 2046 U.S. Open — the 146th playing of the championship — will be Baltusrol's first since Lee Janzen's win in 1993.

The 17-year-old Jacksonville Beach, Fla., phenom earned medalist honors for the first time in a USGA championship – sharing it with fellow Floridian Sohan Patel and Southern Californian Brayden Jones – at the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club.

Finishing before an afternoon thunderstorm delayed Tuesday’s second round for 70 minutes, the left-hander, who tied for 39th in last month’s U.S. Open and was recently named to the 2026 USA Walker Cup Team, carded a 5-under-par 66 on the Old Course for a 36-hole total of 6-under 135.

Fujikura Helps Drive Champion To Memorable Major Win in England

Fujikura and VENTUS once again played a key role in a memorable Major Championship victory, with this weekend’s winner in Southport, England, trusting the brand's proven performance technology to overcome the unique demands of links golf on one of the toughest courses on the UK Major rota.

The 7,223-yard, par-70 layout played incredibly fast due to the extreme heat and sun-baked fairways, so position from the tee was at a premium as players chased birdies, with penal rough waiting to punish any wayward play.

Buoyed by Third-Round 66, Cink Takes One-Shot Lead at Scioto C.C.

The 46th U.S. Senior Open at Scioto Country Club went back to the future on Saturday sans a souped-up DeLorean with a flux capacitor.

With an ode to the popular 1985 movie, the dial only was turned back to 2025. Basically, the same protagonists are part of this script. Just replace Mark Hensby with George McNeill.

By George! McNeill 36-Hole Leader at Scioto C.C.

America is celebrating its 250th birthday on Saturday, but the way things transpired at sultry Scioto Country Club on Friday, the fireworks came a little early.

On another oppressive day in central Ohio – and there have been many this week – when it would have been quite acceptable for the field in the 46th U.S. Senior Open Championship to wilt in the 90-degree heat, the leaderboard was lit up with golf’s version of pyrotechnics.

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Cink, Wi Share First-Round Lead at Sultry Scioto C.C.

Oppressive heat. An extremely challenging golf course. And a national championship. It’s enough to make anyone lose their mind.

Like it’s been all week at Scioto Country Club, a historic Donald Ross design hosting its third U.S. Senior Open Championship (46th edition), the weather for Thursday’s opening round – namely temperatures in the mid-90s with triple-digit Heat Indexes – continued to be the dominating story.

46th U.S. Senior Open Championship Notebook

The inaugural U.S. Senior Open, played in 1980, was conducted for golfers 55 and older. The next year, the USGA lowered the minimum age to 50 to match the Senior Tour’s age requirement. Arnold Palmer, who had just turned 50, won the 1981 championship.

Miller Barber captured the first of his three U.S. Senior Open titles in 1982 – he also won in 1984 and 1985. The U.S. Senior Open has six two-time champions: Gary Player (1987, 1988), Jack Nicklaus (1991, 1993), Hale Irwin (1998, 2000), Allen Doyle (2005, 2006), Kenny Perry (2013, 2017), Bernhard Langer (2010, 2023) and Padraig Harrington (2022, 2025).

46th U.S. Senior Open Championship Fact Sheet

Scioto Country Club, designed by Donald Ross, opened for play in 1916. The course was renovated by Dick Wilson in the 1960s, by four-time U.S. Open and two-time U.S. Senior Open champion Jack Nicklaus and Dr. Michael Hurdzan in 2008 and most recently in 2021 by Andrew Green, who reclaimed the course to Ross’ original intent. In addition to the golf course, Scioto has acclaimed facilities and programs for aquatics, fitness, tennis, platform tennis and pickleball. Nicklaus and Bob Jones, two legends of the game, are tied to Scioto Country Club.

Jones won the U.S. Open, one of his nine USGA championships, at the club in 1926, while Nicklaus honed his game there with teaching professional Jack Grout. Scioto will become the third club to host three U.S. Senior Opens. Saucon Valley Country Club, in Bethlehem, Pa., was a host site for a third time in 2022 and The Broadmoor’s East Course, in Colorado Springs, Colo., hosted its third in 2025.

Titleist GTS4 Driver vs. Tour Edge Exotics LS Driver Review

I took the new Titleist GTS4 driver head-to-head against the new Tour Edge Exotics LS driver recently and the results were expected and surprising.  I tested both drivers with the same 9 degree heads, the same Fujikura Ventus Blue 6S shafts,  used the same Pro V1x ball, and all numbers were recorded using GCQuad.

The GTS4 is going to win some awards.  It's like the craft IPA everyone talks about.  And there are some definite improvements from GT4 to GTS4 I'll touch on below.  However the Exotics LS is going to win over the crowds.  And in some ways Exotics LS legitimately outperformed the GTS4.  By comparison it's like the local lager that quietly wins blind taste tests.

Inside the Mind of a Club Champion Master Fitter: An Iron Fitting Review

Many golfers walk into an iron fitting believing the clubhead is the star of the show.  And while head designs certainly matter, experienced fitters know that the shaft often has the greatest influence on how a golfer delivers the club to the ball.

During an iron fitting at Club Champion much of the session is devoted to identifying the shaft that produces the most consistent strike pattern, ball flight, and dispersion.  And the process is far more sophisticated than simply choosing between flexes or lengths.
