NGF Short Game: Golf’s $100 Million Phone Problem

If you’ve spent any time on golf social media lately, you’ve probably seen a skit lampooning the ridiculous calls that pro shop staff field each day. “What time does the sun set?” “Is it raining there right now?” “Are people wearing shorts today?” Parody videos like these have racked up millions of views, and even helped Hermitage Golf Course in Tennessee gain 100,000 Instagram and TikTok followers, by turning golf’s phone culture into comedic relief.

It’s easy to laugh at them, but those of us who’ve worked in a pro shop and managed the phone lines know there’s an uncomfortable truth and frustration behind these reels, and that the humor distracts from a not-so-funny industry problem: golf facilities hemorrhaging resources on avoidable (and often trivial) calls, diverting staff from higher-value touch points and revenue-generating activities.

Fujikura was once again trusted as the number one performance golf shaft at the season-ending event in Atlanta, Georgia, where the brand's flagship VENTUS line helped drive the winner to an enthralling victory.

U.S. Senior Women’s Open Crown Marks Historic First for Wales’ Becky Morgan

The roller coaster ride across San Diego Country Club in Sunday’s final round of the 7th U.S. Senior Women’s Open mimicked the moguls that characterize the fairways. And when the up-and-down journey for all the contenders ended, Becky Morgan became the first player from Wales to win a USGA championship.

There was no such thing as a clean scorecard on this demanding day. The key was to bounce back from mistakes. And Morgan did that brilliantly, erasing two bogeys with five birdies and several key par-saving putts for a closing-round 70 to finish 72 holes at 7-under-par 285 for a dominant six-stroke victory over five-time USGA champion Juli Inkster, who earned a runner-up finish in this event for the third time.

Morgan Looks to Join History as U.S. Senior Women’s Open Enters Weekend

Outside the clubhouse at San Diego Country Club stands a statue of Mickey Wright, a former member here and a four-time winner of the U.S. Women’s Open. That monument stands in silent appreciation of the 7th U.S. Senior Women’s Open, the championship that both celebrates history, and makes some of its history.

Looking to write her name into golf’s annals with indelible ink is Becky Morgan of Wales. The two-time Curtis Cup team member for Great Britain & Ireland made seven birdies and two bogeys in Friday’s second round as she carded the low score of the week, a 5-under-par 68 that put her at 4-under-par 142, the best through 36 holes.

There was fire in the cleverly contoured greens of San Diego Country Club for Thursday’s first round of the 7th U.S. Senior Women’s Open. And no one handled the heat better than four-time USGA champion Annika Sorenstam, whose 3-under-par 70 put her atop the leader board.

Sorenstam, who won the 2021 U.S. Senior Women’s Open as well of the U.S. Women’s Open in 1995, ’96 and 2006, started the day on No. 1 and made the turn at 3 under par as she began the round with two birdies and bookended it with another on No. 9. As she headed to No. 10 tee she was the leader.

New Titleist T-Series T100, T150, T250, T350 Irons and U-505 and T250-U Utility Irons (2025) - Titleist Fitting Review

I recently went through a Titleist fitting for the new 2025 T-Series irons and utilities.  I hit every iron, the T100, T150, T250, and T350, as well as the U-505 and T250-U utilities.  And I can sum up the entire fitting by telling you this T-Series is Titleist's GOAT.  No exaggeration.

Something was legitimately improved in every model.  In some ways even significantly improved.  And more than any line in Titleist history all four iron models blend about as perfectly as possible for combo variations.  There's actually a fifth iron model as well - the T250 Launch Spec, but I didn't test that iron.  I'll let you know what my ultimate set wound up being at the end.

2025 Callaway X Forged Irons VS. X Forged Max Irons Review: 10 Things to Know

It's been about five years since Callaway Golf released an X Forged iron model.  And improvements to the 2025 X Forged irons make this legendary series better than ever before.  But Callaway also double-downed on X Forged with an entirely new model, the X Forged Max irons.  X Forged Max features the same one-piece 1020 carbon steel forged material but is designed in a players distance construction.

A Megha U.S. Women’s Amateur Win for Stanford’s Ganne

Winning a national championship for any athlete is an exhilarating feeling. Megha Ganne experienced such elation in 2024 when the Holmdel, N.J., native helped the powerhouse Stanford University women’s golf program collect its third NCAA title.

But it wasn’t until a sun-splashed and breezy Sunday at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort that the 21-year-old got to experience such a feat as an individual.

Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ White Shaft Review - 10 Things to Know

A lightweight driver shaft should in theory generate more distance.  They're easier to swing and allow you to swing faster to create more swing speed than heavier shafts.  The problem with lightweight driver shafts (for me at least) is there's often some other accompanying loss of feel, control, or accuracy.  Until now.

The new Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ White is the first lightweight driver shaft I've played that checks all the boxes for me.  Increased swing speed and distance?  You bet.  But Ventus White also delivers consistent shot patterns and doesn't disrupt my timing and tempo.  I installed the Ventus White into my Ping G440 LST driver and I'll give you some comparisons in feel, launch, and spin to the Ventus VeloCore+ Blue shaft (which I play in a different driver) in this review as well.

Final 4 at Breezy Bandon Dunes: Biermann, Ganne, Louderbaugh, Scaysbrook

Winning matches at the quarterfinal stage of a USGA championship is always a difficult task, whether it is the talented opponent greeting you on the first tee or just the enormity of the moment.

Add sustained winds from 15-20 mph – with gusts into the mid-30s – and that challenge gets multiplied in spades.
