Atlanta Athletic Club Completes Riverside Course Renovation

The Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC) has completed the renovation of its Riverside Course. Golf course architect Tripp Davis re-envisioned the routing, playing strategy, and visual quality of this storied course set alongside the Chattahoochee River.

The renovation of the course had three principal goals: completely update the course infrastructure from tee to green to allow for heightened playing conditions; accentuate the beautiful Riverside terrain in a more natural way; and enhance the playing interest and enjoyment for members and high-level players alike.

USGA and R&A Announce 2023 Rules of Golf Update

The USGA and The R&A have unveiled a regular update to the Rules of Golf as they continue to make the Rules easier to understand and apply. The new Rules will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

The 2023 edition continues the modernization process, with an emphasis on both inclusion and sustainability. For the first time, the modified Rules for players with disabilities have been fully incorporated into the playing rules without the need to adopt a local rule. The governing bodies, supported by longstanding partner Rolex, will also promote digital and mobile app access to the Rules while significantly reducing the production and distribution of more than 4 million printed books.

Phoenix Country Club to Host PGA Tour Champions Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Phoenix Country Club will host the PGA TOUR Champions Charles Schwab Cup Championship next Thursday – Sunday, November 10 – 13. The final event of the PGA TOUR Champions season, and the third and final event of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, will feature the top 36 golfers in the standings and determine the annual Charles Schwab Cup Champion.

Steven Alker currently leads in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, with Pádraig Harrington, Steve Stricker, Jerry Kelly, and Miguel Angel Jiménez rounding out the top five. World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer, who secured his record-sixth Charles Schwab Cup in 2021, will be back again this year at Phoenix Country Club. Other notable golfers to secure spots in the season-ending event include Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen.

The Golf Architecture of Donald Ross - A Study of the Work of America's Greatest Golf Course Designer by Bradford A Becken Jr.

Bradford A. Becken, Jr.,Donald Ross Society president since 2018, has authored and presented a detailed analysis of Ross’ work relying on approximately 1,500 hole and green and routing drawings that still exist and having played and extensively photographed each one. Starting with the opening of Oakley CC in 1901, Donald Ross, the most important North American architect has 420 design and redesign golf courses to his credit. 370 courses remain today in the US and Canada. The book looks at Ross’ design characteristics and also discusses the restoration movement of Ross’ courses that began in the 1980’s.

GOLF Magazine Announces the 2022 Inductees for the World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame

GOLF Magazine announced its newest inductees into the World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame. The 2022 class includes legendary instructors Randy Smith, Mike McGetrick and the late Ben Doyle.

The ceremony to induct this year’s honorees will be held on Monday, November 14th at GOLF’s Top 100 Teachers Retreat, at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Chicago Golf Club to Host 2033 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and 2036 Walker Cup

The USGA has announced that Chicago Golf Club, in Wheaton, Ill., will be the host site for the 2033 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and the 2036 Walker Cup Match. The historic club has previously hosted 12 USGA championships, most recently the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open in 2018.

“The history of the USGA and American golf can’t be told without Chicago Golf Club, and just over 125 years after hosting its first USGA championship, we’re thrilled to announce our return for two additional significant events,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “With the tremendous support of its members and some of the game’s most iconic architecture, we’re confident that Chicago Golf Club will deliver memorable moments and an opportunity for golf fans around the world to see one of America’s finest golf venues.”

Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club to Host 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced that Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, in Nichols Hills, Okla., will be the host site of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, which will take place from May 10-14.

The club hosted the 1953 U.S. Amateur, when future U.S. Open champion Gene Littler defeated Dale Morey, 1 up, in the final match. Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club has also held qualifiers for the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur.
