The PGAPappas Podcast - Episode 5: Dan Feeney - Senior Director of Biomechanics and Research at the BOA Performance Fit Lab

Dan Feeney is the Senior Director of Biomechanics and Research at the BOA Performance Fit Lab and if you think you know BOA just wait until you listen to this episode.  Dan joins The PGAPappas Podcast and takes us down the rabbit hole of all things BOA.

We talk about what the BOA Fit System is really all about, the massively extensive testing BOA does to achieve unequaled BOA comfort and performance benefits, and a lot more.

Dan has a Ph.D. in Neural Control of Movement and elaborates on what exactly happens in the BOA Performance Fit Lab day in and day out, and how BOA continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in golf shoe performance.

You can subscribe, follow, and listen to Episode 5 of The PGAPappas Podcast here on Apple Podcasts and also on Spotify.

We geek out about the multitude of BOA shoe configurations, Fitts' Law, the purposes and differences between multiple BOA dials, and how deeply involved BOA is in golf shoe designs with its partners right from the first concept.

And for the first time in PGAPappas Podcast history we're also going to give a pair of new FootJoy Pro SLX BOA golf shoes to a listener. Just comment in the podcast comments section (and/or on X/Twitter, Instagram, or here on my Blog with what you enjoyed most about this episode.

This one's a lot of fun. Down the BOA rabbit hole we go baby!

  1. I've only tried one boa style golf shoe from skechers. While they secure my front of the foot, they don't secure the heel very well. I like how he went in depth about the different designs and features to help secure your whole foot. The research into the effects from twist, pressure, and impact was fascinating! Great pod!

  2. Very good information on your podcast Pete!! Better fit, better performance. If you improve fit, you improve performance. I love how easy to understand phD. Dan Feeney and you make it.

Interesting to hear about how our “Fundamentals Movements” impact our performance in sports. For example, Dan spoke on how efficient a player is at walking will affect how they play golf. I’ve never thought about how walking the course for hours will actually play a role in how well you preform when you are actually hitting the golf ball. Seriously!

Additionally, I’m glad you guys spoke on the fact that Dan’s publications have industry credibility through publishing verified testing on his understanding of how your feet impact you deeply in performance.

I checked out the publications on “BOAfit.com,” and got to the “Nitty Gritty details” as Dan said.
Thank you for a great Podcast Pete!!
