Titleist GT280 Mini Driver Fitting and Testing Review: 10 Things to Know

I was recently fit for the new Titleist GT280 Mini Driver and shared some thoughts on social about my fitting and how GT280 compares to the GT driver and fairways.

This fitting review was presented in a “10 Things to Know” format which a lot of you really loved. Right to the point, highlighting comparisons, similarities, and differences. And I’ll be using this review format a little more often since it was so popular with you.

So here we go.  Initial impressions on the new GT280 Mini Driver off the tee and off the deck with comparisons to the GT4 Driver and GT2 Fairway Wood.

Here are 10 things to know about the new Titleist GT280 Mini Driver:

Number 1. ▪️GT280 ball speeds are higher than the GT2 wood and lower than the GT4 driver; closer to driver speeds but about 3-4 mph less.

Number 2. ▪️GT280 spin rates are about 400-500 rpm higher than the GT4 driver.

Number 3. ▪️Heavy weight in the front produced about 3-4 mph faster ball speed off the tee and off the mat than heavy weight in the back.

Number 4. ▪️Heavy weight in the front produced about 500 rpm less spin off the tee and 200 rpm less spin off the mat than heavy weight in the back.

Number 5. ▪️Heavy weight in the front resulted in about 2 degrees lower launch off the tee and off the mat than when heavy weight was in the back.

Number 6. ▪️GT280 had tighter left-to-right dispersion on misses toe and heel than both the GT4 driver and GT2 wood.

Number 7. ▪️GT280 had tighter downrange dispersion on misses low on face off the mat than the GT2 wood when heavy weight was in the back (retained launch, ball speed, and spin better).

Number 8. ▪️GT2 wood had tighter downrange dispersion on misses low on face off the mat than GT280 when heavy weight was in the front (retained launch better).

Number 9. ▪️GT280 was more solid, dense, and responsive feeling than both the GT driver and wood.

Number 10. ▪️GR280 has the same sleeve/settings as GT wood so easily interchangeable.

Overall the GT280 delivers more distance and stability than the GT2 wood off the deck.

Off the tee GT4 is longer but the GT280 has more stability and tighter left-right dispersion. GT280 should also be more workable than GT4 off the tee with greater spin.

Heavy weight front was best for me for ball speed, dispersion, and surprisingly even stability. Both off the tee and mat it felt almost like I was hypnotized to hit great shots.

I can’t overstate how awesome GT280 is and how much I love it.
