Callaway Golf Announces New Full Toe SP Wedge: The Most Creative Face in Golf

Callaway Golf designed their new Full Toe SP wedges to solve a problem.  And they're calling Full Toe SP "The Most Creative Face in Golf."

For amateurs and professionals creativity around the green is essential to scoring.  But we all see shots differently even from the same spots.  Some of us play with a square face, others an open face.  Some of us go high and others low.  And that made Callaway think about all the different situations players might use this Full Toe SP wedge so it can shine and perform out of the bunker, out of the rough, out of the fairway; whether you hit it high, low, open face, or square face.

Full Toe SP Unique Shape

Full Toe SP is a much different shape than Callaway's Opus SP.  More offset was designed into these wedges to increase launch angle making it easier to get out of bunkers.  Full length grooves extend all the way across the face  because shots around the green often aren't played out of the center of the face.  And Full Toe SP has 44-percent more groove surface area and 17-percent higher pitch spacing.  This generates more groove edge contact and aggressive stopping power for maximum short game versatility.

Everything about Full Toe SP is about hitting high spinners.  So for example, say you find yourself in thick rough and come across the ball with an open face.  With a traditional wedge there's a good chance you're going to miss the grooves.  But with Full Toe SP you're going to maintain spin and launch that you'd otherwise lose on shots like this.

Full Toe SP Raised CG

Callaway introduced the Spin Pocket with Opus SP and it was a way to raise the CG.  But with Full Toe SP Callaway has gotten CG as high as possible to deliver spin that surpasses any wedge they've ever designed.

The high toe allowed Callaway to both create more area in this section and also remove a lot of material.  So with Full Toe SP the Spin Pocket is 18-percent larger than the SP+ and 35-percent bigger than the standard Opus SP.  And this keeps spin high and launch low on square shots with Full Toe SP.  So it's now like a Swiss Army knife where you have the best of both worlds.  You get high spin low launch on square face shots and high spin high launch on open face shots.

Modified J and New JW Grinds

The modified J and new JW grinds are designed specifically for the Full Toe SP.  They're not like traditional or S or W grinds you see on some of Callaway's other Tour wedges.

Callaway added camber (both heel to toe and back to front) to the J grind to make it more forgiving.  So if you hit behind the ball a little bit you're not going to lose as much speed.  And that's going to mean closer shots to the pin.

The JW grind is designed to deliver the ultimate in forgiveness.  JW is basically a wide version of J that will pop shots out of bunkers even with a square face.  It will let you hit high shots around the green with maximum spin - again, even with a square face.  So you don't have to open this up to get creative.

Designed to be Sand Wedge and Lob Wedge Replacements

Full Toe SP are available in lofts ranging from 54 degrees through 62 degrees (in 2 degree increments).  Because they're designed to launch high they're not offered in traditional pitching and gap wedge lofts like the 48, 50, and 52 where that extra and easy launch isn't necessary or required.

Full Toe SP is available for pre-order today.  Stock shafts will be Dynamic Gold S200 and stock grips will be Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360.  Price per wedge is $199 and these will be available at retail on September 4th.
