Pinehurst No. 8 Re-Opens September 2nd after Agronomic Remastering

Pinehurst No. 8 will reopen Friday, Sept. 2nd, following agronomic and infrastructure enhancements highlighted by new TifEagle greens, fully restored bunkers with fresh sand, improved drainage throughout the course and the removal of invasive trees limiting views and inhibiting sunlight.

Additionally, the existing Bermudagrass turf on tees and fairways was “fraise” mowed to remove thatch throughout the course, tighten up lies and foster more rollout on tee shots. Fraise mowing is a highly disruptive mowing technique developed in the North Carolina Piedmont that effectively removes thatch, organic matter and soil from Bermudagrass in a single pass.

Club Champion Celebrates Annual Putter Fitting Month

There’s nothing worse than a three-putt on a hole that should have been an easy par. Could practice help? Always. But there’s a chance something else is keeping you from reaching your putting potential — your equipment. From September 1 to October 2, 2022, every Club Champion location will waive the putter fitting fee, valued at $125, for any golfer who purchases a new putter or custom putter shaft with Club Champion installation.

Garsen Putter Grips Now Available on Odyssey and Toulon Putters

Miami, Florida-Garsen Golf announces Garsen putter grips are now available on the Odyssey Golf website as a custom grip option for all Odyssey and Toulon putters. Customers will be able to choose from 3 Garsen grip options; The Max Black/White, The Quad Tour Tapered, and the Quad Tour Non Tapered when ordering a new Odyssey or Toulon putter.

The Garsen MAX is the most innovative and unique of all the models of grips in the lineup. By using a square grip with a 45% rotation, the “front” of the grip now becomes an angled area perfectly fitting the players’ grip and creating a much more biomechanically efficient position for the putting stroke. Unlike a traditional putter grip, the MAX places your hands in a position so the palms face each other and the wrists are in a neutral position. It turns your elbows into your body and sets your shoulders back leading to a more one-piece feeling stroke.

Jill McGill knows about disappointment in the final round of a USGA championship, and now she’s revisited the elation of victory. With the South Course at NCR Country Club at its brilliant and challenging best, McGill closed with an even-par 73 on a day when no one broke par to win the U.S. Senior Women’s Open by one stroke over Leta Lindley at 3-under-par 289 in her first year of eligibility for the championship.

“That sounds amazing,” McGill said when introduced as the champion. “I love the USGA. I've loved it ever since I got spanked in my very first Junior Girls by Brandie Burton. That was a welcome to competitive golf.”

Sam Bennett Holds Off Ben Carr to Win U.S. Amateur Championship at The Ridgewood Country Club

Nobody would have questioned Sam Bennett had he chosen not to return to Texas A&M University for a fifth year of eligibility. An All-American who finished tied for 49th in this year’s U.S. Open, Bennett had all of the recommended credentials to enter the play-for-pay ranks.

But he didn’t feel the timing was right. He wanted to graduate. He wanted to mature a bit more, and he enjoys being around his Aggie teammates. That explains why he chose to stick around College Station, Texas, this summer after the Arnold Palmer Cup in early July rather than chase titles on the summer amateur circuit.
