Cherry Hills Completes Restoration of Historic William Flynn Design

Cherry Hills, one of America’s most historic and revered golf clubs and site of Arnold Palmer’s lone U.S. Open victory in 1960, has completed a decade-long restoration of its 1922 William Flynn golf course, which has hosted 14 major championships and will welcome the 2023 United States Amateur Championship next summer.

Cherry Hills commissioned acclaimed golf course architect Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design in 2007 to restore the charm, character, and playability of the original Flynn design while also lengthening it over the years to maintain the club’s heritage of hosting prestigious national championships. Much of the work has taken place over the past decade under the direction of Renaissance associate Eric Iverson.

PopStroke Announces Agreement with Golf Channel to Broadcast PopStroke Tour Championship Presented by TaylorMade

PopStroke Entertainment Group has announced that GOLF Channel will broadcast an hour-long show featuring the best moments of the PopStroke Tour Championship (PTC) presented by TaylorMade on December 19, 2022, with an encore presentation on January 4, 2023. The program will also be available on-demand on Peacock following the broadcasts on GOLF Channel.

The PTC 2022, hosted at PopStroke Sarasota, Florida, from October 26 to 28, will feature two (2) separate competitions for a combined purse of $125,000. The Team Championship will bring together 200 teams (400 players) competing for a $100,000 prize purse, with $20,000 going to the winning team. The Stroke Play (individual) Championship brings together 100 of the best putters in the world, competing for a $25,000 prize purse, $5,000 to the winner.

Belfair West Course Re-Opens Following $5.8 Million Renovation

The West Course at Belfair, a private community in Bluffton, South Carolina, recently reopened following a $5.8 million, five-month golf course renovation. The project, which began in mid-May, included a new irrigation system, re-grassing of greens, bunker renovations, as well as other projects to improve the award-winning course’s playability and aesthetics.

Fazio Design led the renovation project of the original Tom Fazio-designed West Course, which first opened for play in 1996. Leibold Irrigation, a leader in golf course construction and renovation, executed the construction work.

USGA to Return to The Los Angeles Country Club for 2032 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and 2039 U.S. Open

The USGA has announced that The Los Angeles (Calif.) Country Club will host the 2032 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and 2039 U.S. Open Championships. The club has previously hosted three USGA championships, most recently the 2017 Walker Cup Match, and will stage the 123rd U.S. Open next June.

“We could not be more excited to bring our two biggest national championships to The Los Angeles Country Club and extend our relationship with the club that dates back more than 90 years,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “This is a tremendous sports town, an enthusiastic golf community and home to a great venue for championship golf. We’re very much looking forward to next year’s U.S. Open and thrilled to be returning twice more in the future.”

Stanford and North Carolina Win Team Titles as Kuehn and Ford Capture Individual Crowns

The University of North Carolina men’s team and Stanford University women’s team captured the 2022 Jackson T. Stephens Cup team titles. North Carolina defeated Florida State 3-2 to take home the men’s team championship while the women’s team championship match was captured by Stanford beating Wake Forest 4-1.

Rose Zhang of Stanford clinched the winning point for the top-ranked Cardinal on the sixteenth hole winning the match 3&2. Ryan Burnett of North Carolina made birdie on the fifteenth hole to close out the match 5&3 and win the Jackson T. Stephens Cup for the tenth ranked Tar Heels.
