Hackett, Walker Break their Quarterfinal Jinx, Reach Final 4 at Oak Hills C.C.

Twenty-five holes into the 9th U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Oak Hills Country Club, Sydney Hackett and Melanie Walker were on the verge of changing airline reservations and prematurely checking out of their area hotel.

The two Virginians stood at 2 over par and five strokes off the projected match-play cut. But something happened on the way to the clubhouse. The quarterfinalists from the past two championships jumped into a proverbial phone booth and morphed into super-heroes. Seven-under par golf over the final 11 holes got the duo into match play, and by Tuesday afternoon, they were in the semifinals after knocking off record-setting co-medalists and top seeds Lauren and Katelyn Lehigh, of Loveland, Colo., 1 up.

Record-Setting Medalists Overcome Delay, Tough Foes to Reach Final 16 at Oak Hills C.C.

Hearing the airhorn on the fifth green, especially with some nerves still fluttering in their stomachs, was not what record-setting co-medalists Lauren and Katelyn Lehigh wanted 73 minutes into their Round-of-32 match on Monday at Oak Hills Country Club.

The ensuing four-hour, 1-minute weather suspension didn’t make things easier on the Loveland, Colo., sisters who had earned the No. 1 seed for match play in the 9th U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship with their 14-under-par 128 showing the previous two days.

Big Hitter Chris Gotterup Goes the Distance at Myrtle Beach Classic

Bridgestone Golf staffer Chris Gotterup captured his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Gotterup’s confidence in his 2024 Bridgestone TOUR B X golf ball led to a final round 67 and 22-under-par total that was marked by signature big drives and clutch putting.

After a distinguished college career during which he won the Haskins and Nicklaus awards as well as being named Big 12 Golfer of the Year, the New Jersey native decided to search for the best gear for his game and made a visit to Bridgestone’s Covington, GA, facility, where he worked at length with company ball fitters. After seeing first-hand the extreme distance and trajectory control he was getting from the TOUR B X, Gotterup signed as a Bridgestone staffer and began playing the ball as he entered the professional ranks.

Craig, Lehigh Sisters Record-Setting Medalists at Oak Hills C.C.

They say everything is bigger in Texas. That slogan certainly is apropos for what transpired on Sunday in the second and final round of stroke play at the 9th U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Oak Hills Country Club.

Records were flying like a Black Friday sale. Leading the way were two sets of dynamic sisters: Caroline and Catie Craig, of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga., and Loveland, Colo., natives Katelyn and Lauren Lehigh.
