Callaway is releasing new 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw irons and the innovation in these irons revitalizes the muscle back category with a new approach to blades that no one else has done on the market.
Born on Tour and released in extremely limited quantities, Apex MB Tour Raw irons deliver pure feel, total control, and uncompromising precision. They are raw finished for ultimate feedback and really what you might call the new modern muscle back, trusted by the world's best players and now available for players who demand that same level of performance.
The 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw Irons Origin Story
Over the past handful of years Callaway noticed there was a shift in Tour usage on particular styles of irons. The X Forged irons started to gain greater popularity on Tour with players wanting more consistency in performance, feel, and sound.
So Callaway decided to do a complete rework of their muscle back irons to give Tour players what they require from their game at the highest possible levels. Callaway believed the muscle back needs to lay the foundation for their Tour players and product and the current MBs didn't really that as much as Callaway ideally wanted.
Callaway first established who were their main muscle back players on Tour. Then they looked at which particular muscle back irons were played the most and by whom. And from there they took all this information and asked one question, "How can we validate a new muscle back that becomes the preeminent iron in classic shape and modern performance?"
The Callaway MB 18 iron was determined to be the best starting point for analyzing and designing this new modern muscle back. And over in Japan there was a Callaway iron called X Prototype (a combo set going from cavity back to muscle back) that had a lot of same shape and spec nuances of MB 18. So Callaway brought these out on Tour to get player feedback and direction.
These Japanese X Prototype irons had new soles that received fantastic feedback from players. So Callaway began thinking of ways to incorporate these new soles into a new muscle back and also received overwhelming positive feedback from Tour players here in the US. And from there Callaway took MB 18 3D scans and overlayed these with the X Prototype to come up with a new shape, sole, and geometry that was similar to both but also delivered improved overall performance, forgiveness, and turf interaction.
A Deeper Dive into the 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw Sole
The craftsmanship of the new 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw sole has created a sole that moves quicker through the turf than any other previous iron sole without having the need for it to be traditionally narrow.
The Tri-Sole design is something we've already seen in other Callaway irons but it's been refined specifically for Tour level performance.
So the leading edge on Apex MB Tour Raw is a full band that goes from up the hosel and down the front of the toe to create relief in areas where players aren't catching those parts of the sole if they have a lot of droop (as faster swing speed players) or are even hitting out of the rough. And this means the sole is moving faster and crisper through the ground.
The Evolution of the 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw Modern Blade Shape
The Apex MB Tour Raw irons have a somewhat thicker top-line than you get with a traditional muscle back iron. And I know that's going to sound an alarm for some purists out there. But when you look at these irons at address they actually look like traditional, thin, top-lines. Chalk that one up to Callaway geometry magic.
The purpose of a thicker top-line is to deliver better performance, flighted precision, and consistency up and down the face. Callaway used a 360 mil cut around the entire perimeter of the face to achieve the overall shape of these irons. And this also created a secondary chamfer on the leading edge so the blade to gets into and out of the turf faster with less friction.
The 2026 Apex MB Tour Raw 1025 One-Piece Forging
One-piece forging is proven in competition by players like Min Woo Lee, Sam Burns, Chris Kirk, and Nicolai Hojgaard. And this forging delivers a pure feel, shot-shaping control, and precision demanded at this highest level of the game.
