Wilson Staff FG Tour PMP Wedge Review - PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas DAY 1 Giveaway

Wilson Staff's FG Tour PMP wedges aren't good up-and-down wedges.  Get that blasphemous idea out of your head right now.  What they are however, are great up-and-IN wedges.  Seriously, I'm talking real wedge weaponry here... if you're into that sort of thing.

Wedges don't usually get the same kind of love as the driver or the putter.  "Drive for show, putt for dough," but chip and pitch for what?  Yes, wedges are likely the least expensive clubs in your bag, but all you have to do is watch any professional tour over the weekend to see they should be your most valuable.  Cue up your new love affair with Wilson's PMP wedges right here.

The first thing that stands out about the PMP is feel.  Balance is superb, like a perfect pendulum.  It checks in at a lighter overall weight than other esteemed wedges on the market, but that's all about preference.  Some months I've played and tested heavier wedges, other times lighter ones.  You can still feel the head throughout the swing however, and that's why it lives up to the demands of better players and higher handicaps alike.

The next outstanding characteristic of the PMP is its performance.  Magical performance really.  Distance control is so reliable you can set your watch to it.  When you put a wedge in your hands that feels this good, and is this balanced, it's really hard to hit a bad shot unless you just aren't paying attention or are swinging with inhibitions.  "Trust your swing" is a phrase that's sometimes overused in golf instruction, but not here when I tell you: if you trust your PMP wedge it will become the best friend in your bag.

The wedges I'm giving away in my Christmas giveaway are 56* sand and 60* lob wedges, but Wilson offers more PMP options to choose from that the Oregon Ducks have uniforms.  Ninety-seven different loft, sole, and color options to be exact.

PMP stands for Precision Milled Performance, but what that really means is the eleven laser etched lines between each groove make this wedge one of the most versatile on the market.  They pick the ball clean from tight lies, and the KBS High-Rev 2.0 steel shafts will help get your ball flying upwards immediately.  I'm talking Blue Angels flight squadron type of launch.  Be careful you don't shoot your eye out however.

Delicate short-side chip shots check up quickly like your ball has brake pads on it, full swing shots will generate dizzying earth rotation kinds of spin, and splashing out of the sand is almost child's play.  The microgrooves even add a little more bite from the rough to keep those round-ruining fliers in check. Put simply, PMP is a bunker blasting, rough destroying, ultimate dictator that lets you exploit any kind of lie.

PROS:
Hits the wedge trifecta with exceptional distance control, spin, and versatility
One of the best feeling, best balanced wedges on the market

CONS:
Lighter overall weight might not be preferred by all
Your new killer short-game will infuriate some friends

  4. Always looking to improve my short game from 100 yards in and around the greens. When I think wedges, my first thought comes mind would be Cleveland or Comey, but Wilson has been killing it lately with fantastic looking and performing clubs. Could always use some new weapons in my short game arsenal.
