Using a SIK Flo putter, Griffin dropped a 33-foot birdie putt on the par-3 16th hole to grab a one stroke lead, and then sank a clutch six-foot putt on the final hole for the win, making it seven victories on Tour for SIK in the last two years.
According to a story on Roanoke.com, Griffin said, "It immediately felt good. We played nine holes and I was making everything. I was like, 'Man, I don't think you're getting this one back.' He was like, 'Take it.'"
Griffin's success on the greens of the Golf Club of Houston was clearly instrumental to capturing this victory. While Griffin ranked a mediocre 54th in Greens in Regulation (a relatively unheard-of ranking for a tour winner), he ranked 1st in Putts per Green in Regulation and 7th in Strokes Gained: Putting for the tournament. And so far this season Griffin is ranked 8th on Tour in Strokes Gained: Putting, and 2nd in Total Putting.
SIK Golf's putters feature Descending Loft Technology, a patented face technology. Four flat surfaces are milled into the putter face, with each plane descending in loft by 1-degree from the top of the face to the bottom.
When your shaft is pressed forward at impact the ball contact will be higher on the face, and when it's pressed backward at impact contact will be lower. And this results in inconsistent launch angles at impact.
DLT self-corrects these inconsistencies and delivers consistent launch angles from putt to putt, leading to truer and more predictable rolls, regardless of shaft angle at impact. It essentially invalidates user error with a forgiving face no matter your swing style.
