The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California is the oldest athletic club in the United States. It's prestigious championship history includes five U.S. Opens, a U.S. Women's Open, three U.S. Amateurs, a U.S. Junior Amateur, and a Ryder Cup. And the distinctive course architecture of the Lake Course encapsulates and showcases the Golden Age of early American golf.
Luminaries of the game have competed and won here including the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Tom Watson, Billy Casper, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, and Tiger Woods. And on Thursday, June 27th, eight of you will become a part of The Olympic Club's storied 164 year history and leave your own footprints on this hallowed ground.
The moment you step foot on the Lake Course at The Olympic Club it becomes one with your soul. You feel its noble history in your bones. Breathe in the Pacific Ocean air and the spirits of legends who played here whisper stories of triumph, glory, and conquest. This is the kind of course that sends you back in time with sloping, reverse-canted fairways, sloping target greens, and masterful bunkering.
The Lake Course is equal parts idyllic and demanding. A perfectly manicured labyrinth maze built on a hill with pitfalls lurking at every corner and the most satisfying rewards if you maneuver around with skill and poise.
And when the Lake Course hosts the 2028 PGA Championship for the first time it will also hold the distinction of being one of only six courses in history to host the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, and U.S. Amateur. The other five are Hazeltine, Oak Hill Country Club (East), Oakland Hills Country Club (North), Pinehurst Resort No. 2, and Scioto Country Club.
No 54-hole leader at the Lake Course has gone on to win the U.S. Open. And in each championship Lake has treated human golf gods with merciless contempt. Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Payne Stewart were all 54-hole leaders. All of them lost in a playoff or by one stroke.
In 1955 Ben Hogan walked off the 72nd green thinking he has won his record fifth U.S. Open. NBC analyst Gene Sarazen (a two-time Open champion) went off the air declaring Hogan the winner. Hogan even handed his ball to USGA Executive Director Joe Dey leaving the 18th green saying, "This is for The Golf House (the USGA Museum)." But Jack Fleck (an obscure pro from Iowa) forced a playoff and won his lone major championship. And Hogan never won a fifth U.S. Open.
Eleven years later in 1966 Arnold Palmer had a seven-stroke lead with nine holes to play in the fourth round. Palmer went on to write in his autobiography Go For Broke, "I had already set the British Open scoring record several years earlier and was beguiled by the thought of holding both the U.S. and British Open records." Not only would the record escape him, but Palmer would lose in a playoff to Billy Casper. The King would never win another major championship.
Standing on the Lake Course first tee with a breathtaking view of this vast and dazzling property it may be difficult to imagine misfortune lies just ahead. But when you play Lake beware when any shot is not precise.
The Lake Course has undergone multiple renovations and restorations since its establishment in 1924. In 1927 storm damage brought about a Whiting redesign. In 1955 Robert Trent Jones Sr. beefed up the course in preparation for the U.S. Open. In 2009 the greens were changed from Poa to Bentgrass. In 2016 Bill Love led the Lake Course bunker renovation.
And most recently with the Lake Course set to host the 2025 U.S. Amateur, 2028 PGA Championship, 2030 U.S. Women's Amateur, and 2033 Ryder Cup, The Olympic Club approved a Golf Facilities Enhancement Plan in 2021 that included a Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner renovation to Lake's original glory.
Hanse and Wagner used old aerial photos from the 1920s and 1930s to remove hundreds of old Cypress and Pines. With history as a primary focus they widened the fairways by almost 25-percent. Greens have been expanded by almost 33-percent. And fairway bunkers have been re-introduced on one-third of the holes. The result is a Lake Course that more closely resembles its past self with green complexes, slopes, shapes, sizes, and all surrounding areas authentic to original intent in stunning detail.
I'll have a full course review for you detailing the gloriously restored Lake after PWPITheOC. Lots of big elevation change, wicked fairway movement and slope, and some nasty bunkering and green complexes. Before and after photos will illustrate how shapes and positioning of critical course features once again make the Lake Course it's dynamic Mona Lisa self.
The inaugural Play with Pete Invitational was at Oakland Hills Country Club in 2018 and it's grown astronomically ever since. So much so that we're looking at something like a PGAPappas Tour much sooner than later, with Play With Pete Invitationals multiple times a year from historic courses all around the country.
What is the Play With Pete Invitational all about?
— Pete Pappas (@PGAPappas) April 3, 2024
Allow @xai Grok to explain. 💯🔥😁 pic.twitter.com/zAVR9eMNhB
We've also played this event at Scioto Country Club, Pasatiempo Golf Club, Inverness Club, and the Kiawah Resort Ocean Course. And interest keeps growing from courses, sponsors, partners, and of course the stars - you, to be a part of PWPI.
Play With Pete Invitational from Scioto CC was the stuff dreams are made of and altogether magical.
— Pete Pappas (@PGAPappas) August 4, 2023
Scioto fam your hospitality was 💯 extraordinary, something all of us will cherish forever. You captivated, you took our breath away. It was a full day of Scioto wanderlust.… pic.twitter.com/ITNfpsQ5k3
The last few years alone, I've received over 1,000 emails and DMs on X and Instagram to participate in each Play With Pete Invitational, and I'm especially excited about this year's edition from The Olympic Club on the Lake Course. By any and every standard this defiant 1924 Willie Watson and Sam Whiting design on Skyline Boulevard is one of the world's greatest venues.
Play With Pete Invitational at The Olympic Club will take place on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024. When the players arrive they'll meet and greet and I'll start handing out some of the swag they'll be receiving (more on that in a bit).
Your day will start with an early morning round of golf on The Olympic Club's Par-3 Cliffs Course. With nine holes ranging from 63 to 183 yards and majestic views of bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Cliffs is thoughtfully designed, undeniably charming, and incredibly fun.
Following play on Cliffs you'll take a tour of the spectacular Lakeside Clubhouse (which could legitimately be called a museum). It's absolutely fascinating and feel free to take photos and videos throughout. I'll also be capturing pictures and videos of the eight players throughout the entire day. When the tour is over you'll enjoy a late morning lunch in the Clubhouse and the main event on Lake will get underway early afternoon.
You'll also know what it's like to be a pro golfer for a day, because you're going to be sponsored by some of the biggest names in golf. And you want to buckle up for this one.

Play With Pete Invitational is coming to The Olympic Club this June! 💯🔥👀
We’ll have 8 players, and all of them will be fit for new Callaway Ai Smoke drivers to play on the storied Lake Course. Full details soon. #PWPITheOC 😁👍 pic.twitter.com/e3eGeGEnaS
TravisMathew will be providing all the players with polos, outerwear, pants, and shoes.. You'll be able to choose any styles you want. And I'll have your outfits waiting for you on arrival so you can play this historic course in perfect comfort and style.
Just a little Friday sneak peek at some of the Callaway Golf and TravisMathew gear for the players at the Play With Pete Invitational from The Olympic Club and viewers following along on livestream. 👀🔥💯 #PWPITheOC
— Pete Pappas (@PGAPappas) April 19, 2024
And yes, we will have PGAPappas logo balls. 😁👍 #LogoUP pic.twitter.com/pQwkhWa7Fr
Callaway Golf will be providing brand new, custom fit Paradym Ai-Smoke drivers and all the golf balls you need. Yeah... I just said brand new custom fit Paradym Ai-Smoke drivers baby! After players are selected I'll have them get fit near their homes for the Paradym Ai-Smoke driver that's best for their game. And if you already have a Paradym Ai-Smoke driver? We'll get you custom fit into a Paradym Ai-Smoke fairway wood or Odyssey Ai-ONE putter instead, whatever you want. When you arrive at The Olympic Club I'll hand out your new custom fit clubs. Stand on a tee box with an Ai-Smoke driver in your hands or an Ai-ONE putter on greens slippery as a banana peel and you breathe in courage and exhale fear. Callaway is making sure you're ready to take on the Lake Course.
It's about armament and ammunition for Callaway so players will also get to choose from the new Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X, or Chrome Soft balls, whatever model you play. And this year the Callaway balls will once again have the PGAPappas logo as you loved these the last few times. There might even be more Callaway and Odyssey swag for the players but I'm going to keep it a secret for now because honestly it's going to be wildly fun and I want to see the shocks on everyone's face live and in person.

Like always I'm going to capture all the action not only for the players but also for everyone following along on Twitter and Instagram. The entire #PWPITheOC event will be livestreamed on Twitter/X and I'll also have pics, videos, player interviews, jubilant triumphs, crushing defeats, and some incredible insight into Lake's championship personality throughout the day.
We'll even have chances for all of you following along to win prizes, as well as surprise contests for the players competing. Callaway clubs and balls, Odyssey putters, TravisMathew polos, shoes, and more. It's going to be an absolutely unforgettable day and insanely amazing experience for all.
After the round is finished, we'll all regroup back at the Lakeside Clubhouse to have dinner, drinks, share stories about the day and no doubt have memories and new friendships that will last a lifetime.
So how do you enter to join my Play with Pete Invitational at The Olympic Club? Same as it's always been. Just leave a comment here on my blog or on twitter or Instagram, or DM me, or email me and tell me why you want to be one of the eight players to join this event and play at The Olympic Club. (NOTE: Because of the volume of entries coming in and wanting to read and reply to all of you, I'll only be able to accept entries through this Thursday April 25th).
Over the last five years I've read messages from people in every state in the U.S., even from other countries wanting to participate in the Play With Pete Invitational. And again for this one, I welcome everyone from all over the world. You'll have to make your own transportation to get here, but once you step on The Olympic Club grounds, it's all taken care of and just get ready for the time of your life.
It's that simple, I'll read every single comment, DM, and email, and I'll announce the eight players on Thursday, May 2nd.
The Lake Course is one of those iconic venues that truly raises the playing and spectating experience to something sublime, even fairy-tale. A storied championship pedigree, an architectural masterpiece rich in challenge, tradition, and lore, and a history of the game's greatest players atop it all. The Lake Course is a golfing paradise, and PWPITheOC is going to be one for the ages.
So, I need to tell Pete why I'd like to be one of the eight to play in the Play With Pete Invitational at The Olympic Club, I could write a book with all the reasons! I'll keep it short though, I'd love to be included just to experience a day that I'm sure would be like no other. Meeting Pete, playing the Olympic Club Lake Course with new friends, and all the goodness from Callaway and TravisMathew, it would be the golf experience of a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteSign me up Pete, and if I'm not lucky enough to get in I'll surely follow along with you and the lucky eight that do get to go to The Play With Pete Invitational at The Olympic Club.
Thanks for the wonderful opportunity,
Curt "OldeDude"
Thanks for your message Curt. I believe you on the book for sure I feel the same way about why I love The OC so much. Excited is an understatement!
DeleteI’ve never Made any Olympic team and getting the chance to play the Olympic course would be the closest I’ve ever come to the Olympics. I’m also long overdue and getting a chance to shake Pete’s hand and thank him for everything he does for us non Olympic golfers everywhere. Celebrated my 25th anniversary with my wife, but haven’t had a chance to get her away yet. San Francisco would be a great chance To play a play In a play with Pete invitational at the same time …
ReplyDeleteHere’s open I get the lucky email
I guess anonymous doesn’t say who I am. It’s toddo77@hotmail.com from Sudbury Ontario Canada.
ReplyDeleteHaha, well thanks for clearing that up Todd. And Happy Anniversary! Also appreciate the kind words. For real all of you motivate and fuel me everyday and I'm grateful for all of you every single day.
DeleteIt's as simple as everything mentioned throughout this blog post! But to expand, i've been enamored with PWPI's (and Pete from before that) since 2018 and can't get enough of them. The world-class, timeless golf courses and incredible experiences put on by Pete and the incredible manufacturers is second to none. The Lake Course is extremely special and it'd be an honor to tee it up where so many greats have and will continue to.
ReplyDeleteNobody treats golf fans to more behind the scenes looks and opportunities as Pete and i'd cherish nothing more than being added to the fortunate few who have participated in a PWPI. Thanks for all you do, Pete!
Thanks for your message Ryder. The OC is one of my favorite places on earth and I'm beyond pumped for this. Appreciate your kind words. And really wish I could invite everyone to be honest. The livestream is a way to bring everyone in and everyone watching always seems to have as memorable a day as the players playing. It's why I'm out there always with two phones; one taking pics and videos for the players, the other hand holding the phone for livestream. All gas no brakes baby!
DeleteAfternoon Pete. I have watched your previous PWPI's on X(Twitter) and I was fascinated with the possibilities of participating in one of these just one time. I live in the bay area and I was a volunteer at the 2012 US Open at Olympic. Ever since that time, I always wanted to play Olympic. What a fun and most memorable day this would be? Again, I would love to get to play but if not, I will be sure to follow the festivities on the day of play. Thanks again for al that you do for golf Pete and I hope to meet you in late June! Mark Ruhe ruhemark@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for your message Mark. And thanks for your nice words, means a lot truly. PWPI has become such a fun event, for the players and everyone watching along as you mentioned. I was hoping to have a group by last Monday but as you can see I'm still replying to everyone. More messages and emails than for any Play With Pete Invitational to date. Fingers are numbing up over here but won't stop until I reply to every single person!
DeletePete,
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute gem of an event that you have put into the Twitter verse! Your "All Gas No Brakes" mentality has just set the cruise control at about 150mph!
I know from personal experience that you are nothing but first class hospitality and you raise the bar every year on thst department giving golfers something they will talk about for the rest of their lives.
I would be remiss if I didn't throw my name on the hat for this baby. However, a caveat ensues. Warden and I in a "Zurich classic" type of competition has to be done at Olympic Club this June for sure! The lefties are throwing out the gauntlet. Who's ready for the challenge?? #PWPItheOC, #AGNB
Thanks for your message here, and again its just amazing to me, but thanks also for such kind words. Really is all about all of you for me and do my best to bring everyone in to everything golf I do as much as I can. And AGNB yes sir!
DeleteIt's quite simple really .... who wouldn't?! To be able to play such an iconic golf course, as well as to play with one of the nicest guys in the world of golf. His passion & love for the game are noticed by the internet golfing community year after year. it seems to get better and better each year with the amazing manufacturers taking notice and being a part of the fun. This year is no different. Callaway & Travis Matthew will help make this an unforgettable experience for 8 lucky guys. I hope to be a part of it, but if not, I will be following along in awe and jealousy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words Golfin, and yes the entire day I'm hoping will be an unforgettable experience. And you know I have some surpises planned as well I haven't mentioned to anyone yet! All gas no brakes baby!
DeletePete,
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine the number of entries you’re going to receive. I’d love the opportunity to play The Olympic Club because I was just getting really into golf in high school when Scott Simpson won the 1987 US Open and it is one of the first US Opens that I really paid attention to. The course looked amazing on TV and I was hooked, not only to US Open golf, but golf on TV in general. Also, while the swag is amazing and will be cherished, to spend time in the clubhouse to just walk around and look at all the memorabilia will be a close second memory behind the golf and camaraderie. I was lucky enough to be invited to the The Country Cub when I lived in Boston and I could have spent hours in the clubhouse (and locker room). I appreciate you putting this on and for taking the time to read this from a golf nut in Vermont. Robhallisey@comcast.net
Thanks for your message Rob, and yes I'll admit it, the US Open is what got me hooked on golf as well. It's my favorite championship and the US Opens at the Lake Course have been so compelling and dramatic. I'm expecting some of that same theater for PWPITheOC for sure! And yes the camaraderie at the PWPI's has been some awesome to see. Very very special.
DeleteWould be a dream to join the Pappas team for a day at such a historic course. The fact that nobody with a 54-hole lead has won stat is crazy to me considering the weight of those names. Being able to experience a full day, from start to finish, from par-3 course to dinner, would be unforgettable for a California raised guy like myself!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bailey and yes it's going to be a day absolutely full of fun and surprises. It's so unique that the Lake Course can be so breathtaking and intimidating at the same time.
DeleteThe history of this course is incredible, I would love to experience and learn the course if i were lucky enough. As an active FireFighter in South Carolina History is so important to me. I would love the opportunity to shake hands with and meet new people and experience everything there is to offer. Good luck to all and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteCarter12dee@gmail.com
Thanks for your message Carter. The history is remarkable yes. And I can't wait for the players to also tour the clubhouse. I was telling my wife the other day this is truly a place where you feel the energy of its history pretty much every step you take wherever you are.
DeletePlaying Olympic, the site of Johnny Miller’s US Open victory would be a dream. My wife & I have never been to San Francisco but it would be a trip she’d never forget. Raising a glass 🥂to be selected to Play With Pete!
ReplyDeleteSorry but I have to do it. Just like Donkey from Shrek, jumping in the crowd.Ooo me! Me! Pick me! Not only would this course be a dream to play, but it would equally be a dream to get to meet and play with the Kringle himself! I have always admired your work and everything you have done for all of us golfers out there! And now you are doing it once again with an incredible venue; the Olympic Club! As an amatuer armchair architect, I have always been fascinated by what Olympic club has to offer, and having a chance to get an opportunity to actually walk the grounds, feel the slopes, smell the salty air, learn more about the great architecture...ugh I'm geeking out just thinking about it! It would certainly be a once in a lifetime experience. I look forward to see who the luck 8 are. Perhaps me?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your message b.g., and can tell you assuredly Lake will stimulate the architectural eye right to your bones. The property, the movement, the angles and design, all absolutely marvelous and stimulating.
DeletePete - you know how grateful I am for you, but it would be an absolute dream to play alongside you on the incredible Olympic Club! I know this is a tough decision for you - and I'd be honored to be selected! Thanks for EVERYTHING you do!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris, still reading and replying to everyone and it's amazing the passion and genuineness all of you are sharing with me. The eyes and fingers are weary but my heart and soul is energized reading all your messages.
DeleteUnreal chance to walk in the footsteps of legends and hack it out of the deep rough. It would be hard not to appreciate the natural beauty of Northern California and views of thr mighty Pacific as the backdrop. It would be a dream to play an historic venue with so many US Opens like the Hogan and Palmer collapses and the Women's Open just recently. Thought of walking the hallowed fairways with the best writer in Golf!
ReplyDeleteHi Brian, and can tell you two things. First, yes there will be players hacking it out of the rough. And two, you don't ever want to be in the rough. :) It's a mean course for sure but the joy of playing on such a historic course just stays with you forever. One of my favorite places on earth.
DeleteThis is my absolute dream! As a 3rd grade teacher, I’ve decided to organize my reasons using a list!
ReplyDelete1. First and foremost, Pete is a living legend. I’d love to meet him in person, thank him for the many giveaways he has offered and hear about his numerous experiences playing with other heroes of the game. Just to have the opportunity to sit and chat with him as well as meeting other followers would be an adventure of a lifetime.
2. The challenge of testing my game at the place where the US Women’s Open was held at the Olympic Club in 2021 would be beyond amazing and I would be speechless.
3. I’d love nothing more than to try a burger dog! I’ve never been to the West Coast to play golf before and for the Olympic Club to be my first time would be simply EPIC!
4. I’d love to explore the mysteries of the Olympic Club - a place where no 54 hole leader has won the US Open: Ben Hogan in 1955 and Arnold Palmer in 1966.
5. My birthday is June 27th and this would be the most incredible present ever!
Golfgirl thanks for your message and your kind words, truly appreciate. And yes the players will all be tested and I'm thinking at times speechless as well! The Burger Dog lives up to and surpasses all the hype. And honestly everything about The OC does. I hope the players don't feel any of that 54-hole pressure at PWPI but you never know. And happy early birthday!
DeleteWell Pete the time has come again but this time I am throwing my hat in the ring. The reasons to choose me well there really is only 1. You need a token Left Hander. Why you may ask because who else wants to hear “hey Troy your playing from the wrong side of the ball” on the live broadcast also people want you to run from one side of the tee box to the other to film my silky left handed swing which you must admit lefties are smooth. Well I have a #2 as well I’ve never been to California before and I really want to visit Russian River Brewery. Hope you will consider me and we might even be on the same flight out west!!! We do appreciate everything you do for us regular golfers!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your message Lefty and all in on the silky swing baby! Ha, but can tell you even the silkiest of swings is going to find trouble on Lake. Thanks also for your kind words. I love every day because of all of you.
DeleteHi Pete, I've followed your past PWPI's and it seems like such an incredibly unique event and what golf is meant to be. Bringing people together for excitement, laughs, friendly competition, new friendships, and playing the greatest game ever invented on courses that can be a truly spiritual experience. All I can say is that I would love to be a part of it someday.
ReplyDeleteI actually live in the bay area and I'm deeply obsessed with all things golf, so of course I've followed the Lake Course renovation with great interest. But I'm also just a regular guy who will probably never afford a club membership, so playing at places like the Olympic Club seems like a far off dream even though it's right down the road. I would be so grateful for this opportunity, but even if I'm not picked, I'm grateful you're giving people like me this chance!
Hey Jeff, you nailed it on the new friendships. I was just talking to a friend earlier today who played in a PWPI in the past. Didn't know him, and now we talk for hours at a time. It's incredible the friendships that are made. And of course yes the Lake Course. Grin, it's going to be a crazy dynamic of utter joy and at same time incredible difficulty. But it's also as you said a spiritual experience and all having the common bond of loving and playing the greatest game ever.
Delete
ReplyDeleteI would be deeply honored to be considered for PWPITheOC.
Participating in the Play With Pete Invitational at The Olympic Club would truly be an unforgettable golf experience!
It’s an opportunity to test your skills on the renowned fairways and greens of this five-time US Open host venue.
Just imagine teeing off on this historic course, where legends have played, all while channelling your inner Jack Fleck to slay the day!
Surrounded by breathtaking views and the golden hues of the Northern California Coastline, this prestigious golf venue feels like a slice of Heaven on Earth.
But what I’m really looking forward to is the possibility of meeting new friends and bonding over our love of the game of golf. PWPI’s are all about the camaraderie and making lasting connections, right?
And let’s not forget about those delicious Burger Dogs!
#PWPITheOC
Thanks for your message Mike and it will definitely test all the players skills. The views are incredibly breathtaking and really the entire property is amazingly special. No exaggeration when I say the moment you step foot on the property at The OC you just feel the history. And every PWPI I've had the friendships formed have been amazing.
DeleteHey Pete!
ReplyDeleteI'm swinging by with a drive full of enthusiasm and a putt that's eager to meet th legendary greens at The Olympic Club. Here's why I should be one of the chosen eight:
**Eagle-Eyed Enthusiast**: I've got the vision of an eagle, ready to spot the fairways and greens from a mile away. My passion for golf isn't just par for the course; it's a hole-in-one kind of love!
**Fairway Fashionista**: With a wardrobe ready to make the fairways my runway, I'll bring style and grace to every swing. Plus, I'm all about that TravisMathew swag!
**Golf's Next Storyteller**: I'm here to craft the next chapter of The Olympic Club's rich history. Imagine the tales I'll tell, from the Cliffs Course to the 19th hole!
**Swing with Spirit**: I bring more than just my clubs; I bring a spirit that's infectious. I'm all about high-fives, good vibes, and maybe even a celebratory dance or two.
So, Pete, let's make some memories that'll last longer than a 300-yard drive. Choose me, and let's tee off an adventure that's nothing short of legendary!
Best,
Bryon
Bryon I need you to start writing my PWPI sign up articles! Love and appreciate all your on point passion and creativity!
DeleteHello there Pete!
ReplyDeleteWell to begin, I grew up in Northern California, San Jose to be exact, and I had always wondered what this big beautiful place was as a kid. Now that I am older, I have come to appreciate those memories. I may be a very average golfer, but what I bring is a lot of fun and positive energy. There is not a day that passes by that I do not enjoy every minute of after being diagnosed with Liver disease in January 2023. I bring that fighting spirit with me everywhere that I go. I think golf is more than just scores and eagles. it is an experience that we all share together. I would be honored to join you on the greens and experience the beauty of the course!
Thank you for reading,
Michael
Thanks for your message Michael and fun and energy is what PWPI is all about. I'm sorry to learn about your fight with liver disease and at same time I genuinely feel that fighting spirit you speak of. And yes it really is about a lot more than the scores and eagles - by the way what's an eagle? lol ... haven't had one of those for awhile. But yes it is all about what we being to all we do!
DeleteHey Pete, this is such a cool event. Thought I would leave you an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteLast time I played golf in San Francisco we played TPC Harding Park right before the US open in 2019. Me and a group of friends game down and played Harding Park. It was your typical San Francisco day, cold rainy and really foggy.
It was a very cool round of golf and was a really great time, until we got to the car after the round.
We get back to the car and someone smashed the windows and stole all of our stuff. See we were staying in San Jose and didn't get to go to the hotel after getting of our flight. Pretty much all we had left was our golf clubs.
It made for one of my most rememberable trips. Also pretty sure that one of my friends will never go back to San Francisco.
Anyway. Would love to come play the Olympic club at your event, hopefully with a much better out come.
Cheers,
Ken
Thanks for your message and sharing that story Ken. And yes that's insanely memorable. Not sure what I would have done in that situation... except just play more golf :)
DeleteHey Pete...please consider this my official entry in the chance to Play with Pete and partake in this amazing event!! I'm not smart enough to come up with an amazing story or anything like that, except this would be something I would remember for my golf lifetime. Thanks Pete! Blaine (aka @TheFunGolfer)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your message Blaine, and sometimes right to the point is best! And that's the hope that all players remember the day all their lives!
DeleteHey Pete!
ReplyDeleteI’ll be honest, I’m new to reading your content but my goodness it is awesome. I’d love to be considered for the Play with Pete Invitational this year! I’ve played golf nearly all my life and in that time I’ve learned that while it’s awesome to play at amazing venues, most of the fun I draw from the game is those I get to play with. Based on the interactions I’ve read/seen from your previous PWPI events, I think I would be a great addition to this year’s crew. I can get around a course pretty well and keep up the pace of play, all while holding my own in the battle of good natured ribbing that can occur out there. I’m a fan of a good cigar and a solid whiskey to go with a round of golf. I’d love a chance to play with you all, especially as I am one half of the Parent Golfer Podcast, trying to blend the world of playing golf and raising kids and all the fun that comes with that.
I hope you’ll consider me and I look forward to hearing from you soon! Thanks Pete - you can reach me at Justin.desandre@gmail.com
Thanks for your message Justin. And yes there's always ribbing at PWPI's. Very excited about PWPITheOC. Really even more amazing a venue than I described in this article. I've said this before I know but truly one of my favorite places anywhere. The OC and the Lake Course are golf at its absolute best.
