LA Golf Announces New Face ID Drivers

If you head over to the LA Golf website you'll see LA Golf has given us a first look and chance to preorder their new Face ID drivers.  There are five LA Golf Face ID drivers and each has a unique bulge and roll (face curvature) based on swing speed that's designed to optimize side-spin and straighten off-center hits.

These new LA Golf Face ID drivers were designed by LA Golf and Bryson DeChambeau with the goal of creating drivers that are built for individual performance needs while taking into consideration that everyone's game and swing is different.  And a key factor in accomplishing this is the Face ID driver's unique bulge and roll.

Bulge and roll is basically face curvature. Bulge is the curve from toe to heel, and roll is the curve from top to bottom.  And rounding the contours of the entire face has a direct effect on spin and launch on mishits.  Without bulge and roll accuracy and distance performance on mishits would suffer tremendously.

Now let’s be clear, all drivers have bulge and roll.  And I don't want to dive too deeply into it here for now.  LA Golf has a lot more to share with us as there's no mention of face material or exact design technology up on their website yet.  But LA Golf and Bryson believe they've unlocked a technology and design and confirmed through uncompromising testing that will revolutionize driver performance.

So getting back to bulge and roll.  If your driver face was perfectly flat mishits low on the face would create low launch, high spin, and poor distance.  But designing vertical and horizontal curve into the face allows a manipulation of loft, spin, and even ball speed to deliver distance on mishits that more closely approximates center strikes.

Similarly, if our drivers were perfectly flat misses out towards the toe would create excessive sidespin that causes shots to veer off course.  With vertical and horizontal curve in the face however sidespin is reduced and even starts shots further left or right manipulating spin to bring flight closer to intended targets.

If you're curious which of the five LA Golf Face ID drivers is best for you, LA Golf has designed a Face ID Quiz (like an online fitting tool) you can take here.

The new LA Golf Face ID drivers are due to ship March 24th and I'll have a thorough review for you around that time as well.
