Adidas Signs Golf Shorts Trailblazer Forrest Fezler to Special Partnership

Today, adidas announced the posthumous signing of former PGA Tour player Forrest Fezler – whose unique place in the history of the sport makes him the perfect ambassador of style in golf.

In June 1983, during the U.S. Open, Fezler made history when he stepped into a portable restroom on the 72nd hole wearing pants and emerged in shorts. The spontaneous act, subtle yet defiant, marking the unprecedented instance of a player competing in an official PGA Tour event while wearing shorts, cementing Fezler’s status as a legend in breaking the traditional norms of on-course golf style.

In conjunction with the launch of its Ultimate365+ Shorts, adidas has signed Forrest Fezler to a posthumous Name, Image and Likeness endorsement agreement. Fezler is remembered for a rare moment in professional golf history, the only player to record an official score in a major while wearing shorts. adidas is not only celebrating a defining moment in golf history, but also ensuring the man behind it is never forgotten.

Adidas will honor Forrest Fezler and his historic moment and memorable contribution to golf through:

  • A commemorative statue in Fezler’s likeness (wearing shorts, of course), on May 12 until May 17, in Dilworth Park in front of historic City Hall in downtown Philadelphia.
  • During the tournament, adidas athletes will wear a special-edition patch, recognizing Fezler’s impact on the game.
  • As the first major to allow athletes to wear shorts during practice rounds, adidas athletes will also pay homage to Fezler by wearing shorts Monday–Wednesday (weather permitting).
  • On-site storytelling and content moments celebrating Fezler’s influence on the modern game. Fans can tune in via Instagram, @adidasgolf.

While rooted in history, the tribute underscores where the game is today. Through continued innovation like the Ultimate365+ Short, adidas remains focused on delivering performance-driven apparel that supports how modern athletes play -combining comfort, versatility and style for every round.
