2015 Champion Chip Lutz Among Eight Players in ​​​​​​​Quarterfinals at 66th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

Thirteen USGA champions began the week at the Country Club of Detroit for the 66th U.S. Senior Amateur. Just one remains.

Chip Lutz, the 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur champion from Reading, Pa., won a pair of matches on Tuesday to earn a spot in the quarterfinals for the sixth time in 11 championship starts. Lutz, who hasn’t had a match go beyond the 16th hole in the first three rounds, defeated Eddie Hargett, of Blythewood, S.C., 3 and 2, after knocking off Jim Muething, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 6 and 5, in the Round of 32 in the morning.

Tour Edge Finishes 1-2 on PGA Tour Champions in Michigan

A now 8-time winner on the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions won the 2021 Ally Challenge on Sunday playing an Exotics C721 Driver.

The Ally champion shot rounds of 65-66-68 at Warwick Hills G&C to secure the victory. The winner also won with Tour Edge in the bag when he won the 2018 Chubb Classic with an Exotics fairway and hybrid in play.

USA Completes Comeback to win the 41st Curtis Cup Match

The USA completed an impressive comeback to win the 41st Curtis Cup Match with a dominant final day singles performance at Conwy Golf Club in Wales.

The USA, captained by Sarah Ingram, recovered from a three-point deficit after the opening day to surge to a convincing 12 ½ - 7 ½ victory over Elaine Ratcliffe’s Great Britain and Ireland team. The Americans took a firm grip in today’s singles winning six of the eight matches.

Chip Lutz, Jeff Knox and Scott Almquist Share First-Round Lead at 66th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

Scott Almquist may have a new outlook on the value of a practice round. With Friday afternoon’s thunderstorm that dumped a little more than 1¼ inches of rain at the Country Club of Detroit, the 56-year-old from Wallace, Idaho, didn’t get much of a look at the venue hosting the 66th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

“I got to play one hole and they called it,” said Almquist. “So I was kind of blind all day, which maybe was good for me.”

The Curtis Cup Match is contested by female amateur golfers, one team from the United States of America and one team composed of players from Great Britain & Ireland. The teams consist of eight players and a captain.

The Match is conducted every two years, alternately in the USA and in Great Britain or Ireland. This is the 41st Curtis Cup Match, which was postponed from 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Inside the Numbers: 66th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

The Country Club of Detroit, site of two previous U.S. Amateur Championships will host the 66th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship August 28th to September 2nd.

The course will be set up at 6,901 yards and will play to a par of 36-36–72. Based on this setup, the USGA Course Rating™ is 73.8 and the Slope Rating® is 136.

Piot Rallies to Defeat Greaser and Capture 121st U.S. Amateur at Oakmont

James Piot, 22, of Canton, Mich., rallied from a three-hole deficit with the help of three birdies over the final eight holes on Sunday to capture the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship at demanding Oakmont Country Club with a 2-and-1 victory over Austin Greaser, of Vandalia, Ohio.

Greaser, 20, assumed a 3-up lead with a par on the par-4 ninth hole at Oakmont, the 27th of the match. But Piot began his winning comeback on the next hole, the 474-yard, par-4 10th, a hole that the fifth-year Michigan State senior owned this week: he won it in all five of his previous matches, and twice more in the championship match vs. Greaser, a junior at the University of North Carolina.

Austin Greaser and James Piot to Square Off in 121st U.S. Amateur Championship Match at Oakmont

Austin Greaser, of Vandalia, Ohio, and James Piot, of Canton, Mich., posted convincing semifinal victories on Saturday to move into Sunday’s 36-hole final of the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship at Oakmont Country Club.

Greaser, 20, a junior at the University of North Carolina and the No. 24 seed, won four consecutive holes starting at No. 11 to take a 3-up lead in his match against No. 4 seed Travis Vick, 21, of Houston, Texas. A couple of errant shots by Greaser led to losses on Nos. 15 and 16 to solid pars by Vick, but after Vick missed his par putt on No. 17, he conceded his opponent’s short birdie putt and the match, 2 and 1.
