Fanning the Flames: Liberty's Josh Ryan Medalist at U.S. Amateur

Expect a bit more than just rush-hour morning traffic from Norristown, Pa., to the Main Line on Wednesday. The Montgomery County town in the Philadelphia suburbs has a local hero to follow at the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship as the competition moves to the match-play stage at historic Merion Golf Club. 

Joshua Ryan, the winner of the 2026 Pennsylvania Amateur, produced a near-record breaking performance in stroke play, posting a 36-hole total of 8-under 132 to earn medalist honors over a stellar field of 311 competitors.

Competitors in this week’s 126th U.S. Amateur Championship have talked about the importance of finding fairways. Whether it was Merion Golf Club or stroke-play co-host venue Philadelphia Country Club, playing from the rough proved to be penal. 

While the USGA doesn’t have cost-of-rough statistics at its amateur competitions, balls that nestled into the heavy stuff meant a difficult challenge to make par.

126th U.S. Amateur Championship Fact Sheet

The 126th U.S. Amateur Championship kicks off Monday from Philadelphia Country Club for stroke play and Merion Golf Club for match play.

Merion Golf Club’s East Course will be set up at 6,939 yards and will play to a par of 36-34-70. Philadelphia Country Club, which will serve as the stroke-play co-host course for the two rounds of stroke play, will be set up at 7,201 yards and will play to a par of 35-35-70. (NOTE: Yardages subject to change.)

Topgolf Announces World Series of Golf Competition

Sports and entertainment leader Topgolf announced today a partnership with the World Series of Golf (WSG) and the first-ever World Series of Golf qualifying tournament, a poker-style golf tournament held simultaneously across 30 venues in 11 states – Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina and Tennessee.

USGA Renews IDEA Grant Funding to First Tee Chapters for Fifth Straight Year

The USGA is reinforcing its commitment to broadening golf’s reach with a new round of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) grants awarded to 26 First Tee chapters across the United States. The funding supports local programs that introduce young people to golf while intentionally instilling the game’s values, like honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.

Since the grant program launched in 2021, the USGA has provided 155 grants totaling more than $1 million. These investments are designed to help First Tee chapters expand their impact in communities that have historically had limited access to the sport, creating more opportunities for youth to learn, play and grow through golf.

Fujikura Helps Power Career First Tour Victory in Minnesota

USGA history will be made on Saturday when southpaws Miles Russell, 17, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and 18-year-old Noah Maclauchlan, of Moseley, Va. square off in the 36-hole final on the Old Course. It’s the first time in an individual USGA championship that two left-handers have made a final.
