Club Champion Golf Driver Fitting Review - PGAPappas Swing into Spring Giveaway

You guys know I'm all into Club Champion.  I've been fit there multiple times for different clubs, and each time the experience has been utterly fantastic.

I like to share as much of everything golf I do with all of you, from equipment and course reviews, to Play with Pete Invitationals and giveaways.  And recently I had a Club Champion (Swing into Spring) driver fitting giveaway here on my blog, twitter, and Instagram.  And the winner Erik had "one of his best golf experiences ever."

In his own words, here's what Erik (FernDog on twitter) thought and learned about the entire Club Champion fitting experience:

After Pete let me know that I had won the Club Champion Driver Fitting Experience contest, I was massively excited!!  I had never been to a CC before but was really looking forward to it.

The CC corporate office sent me an e-mail with a reservation to go to their location in Plano, TX in a few weeks, which was a 20 minute drive from where I live.

The appointment was on a Wednesday from 10:00am to 11:30am and I was told to arrive 15 minutes early with my current driver to loosen up, which I did.

Their office was amazing.  The waiting area had a number of great looking staff bags and a very cool putting station next to it with around 30 putters that they use for their fitting.

There is also a wall of the latest club grips as well as an entire wall of shafts and driver/iron heads. I was definitely in golf nerd heaven!!

My fitter, Brian, introduced himself and we spoke for a bit about my golf game, club brand preferences, and playing style. Brian set me up in one of their two hitting bays that had Trackman technology.

After hitting 5-7 drives, he started out with discussing my spin rate and stated that he wanted to fit me in a shaft that would put me in a Low Spin target range.  After that, we would work on the driver heads to see distance, direction and loft.

He switched out a few shafts and driver heads over the next 40 minutes that included the Accra and Project X shaft lines along with the King Cobra, Taylor Made Sim 2, Ping and Epic Max LS driver heads.

Some drives were low and to the left, some were high and to the right and nearly half of them were down the middle. During this process, Brian was patient and took the time to educate me about the data he was collecting and what it meant for the fitting.

To be honest, after about 50 drives, I was tiring out which he quickly noticed.

Brian said that he wanted this to be a great experience for me and to find the right driver/shaft combo possible so he suggested that I come back the following week for another hour to narrow our choices down.

Brian said that he would not charge for the extra session and set me up with the next appointment for Thursday, the next week.

The next Thursday, I arrived for the 8:00am appointment with my current driver, warmed up and we got to work.  He had already found the right type of shaft that would assist me with my low spin needs. After about 25 drives, Brian told me that he was ready to give me his suggestions for the fitting.

Brian said, “You had fun on this side of the bay, now I want to make sure you have a great experience on the other side of the room by having you pick out the shaft and driver from the wall that you want as the contest winner.”

He suggested that based on the Trackman data and what he saw from my swing patterns, that I go with the Epic Max LS driver head because of my low spin needs and the adjustability of the features which would allow me to dial the driver head in further at the driving range.

He then showed me a Limited Edition US Open HZRDUS Smoke RDX 60 shaft that had red, white and blue graphics. He attached them and let me hit a few with it.  After a few shots down the middle, he said we were ready to place the order.

We walked over to the wall of grips and I chose the Golf Pride MCC midsize grip in red and navy colors.  Brian told me that due to COVID, orders were taken longer than anticipated and said that the driver would be ready within 4-10 weeks. I would return to their CC office to pick it up.

I was so impressed with the great knowledge Brian gave me about golf equipment, my swing tendencies, and needs for low spin range, I decided to make an appointment for a putter fitting with Brian when the driver was ready to be picked up.

The cost is $100 for the session but from the process that Brian described to me in their putting fitting area, it sounds like it will be well worth the investment.

I’m stoked to get this new driver out on the range and on the course!! Many thanks to Pete, Club Champion and Brian for making this one of my best golf experiences ever!!

And there you have it, Erik definitely had an incredible time and looks like it's going to be a season of bombs from the tee for FernDog!

One of the many interesting things about Club Champion to me, having been fit myself and hooking you guys up, recommending Club Champion to many of you all over the country, has been how overwhelmingly positive our experiences have all been.

We're different ages, at different locations, with different personalities and different skills, but all of us just gush about the Club Champion fitting process and the undeniable positives we take from it for our games.

Golf is in a great place right now, and Club Champion is certainly helping all of us reach new heights of better play and fun out there on the course.

  2. Thats awesome, i wish my experience had been the same. Im willing to go back and checked my locations website and noticed that my previous fitter was no longer working there. Make of that what you will but i have my assumptions. Looking forward to having a better experience next time.
