I haven't carried more than a couple Titleist clubs in my bag since the 913 D series (when I played the driver, fairway wood, and hybrids). Titleist released some great equipment since, but I wasn't completely blown away by the new stuff or felt an upgrade would significantly improve my game. The TS series changed all that, and the TS2 wood is phenomenal on multiple levels.
We need distance to carry huge bunkers and devilish water hazards, or we're forced to lay up. Forgiveness is a must to stay in the short grass and avoid getting lost in ankle-high rough when we inevitably hit those squirrely shots. And of course accuracy to precisely hit targets is essential, especially on greens where soft landings are the only way we're not rolling off or worse. And I'm happy to report the TS2 is a triple-threat in these departments.
A thinner face means more flex at impact, and that's a big reason why you're getting some incredible ball speeds and distances with this club. I wouldn't say the greater distances blew me away like they did with my TS driver, but there's no question the TS2 is longer than the previous three generations of Titleist woods.
You're also getting improved stability on off center hits thanks in part to weight distribution changes from using a lighter crown. A single sole weight places CG low and back, which makes the TS2 ridiculously easy to launch and also more forgiving. And it doesn't matter what skill level you are, keeping it in play is always a good thing for your scorecard.
Titleist has used an Active Recoil Channel (ARC) to deliver impressive speeds on shots hit low on the face since the 915 series of woods, and by moving the slot higher up behind the face they've actually increased ball speeds in the TS2. This is a huge deal for me because that's where most of my worst misses occur - especially on firmer and uneven lies.
The TS2 is a little bigger than previous Titleist woods, and that makes it an ideal option to driver when you really need to keep it in play off the tee. It also features a taller face, and with ball speeds more consistent across a larger area of that face, you have more room for error on mishits.
With an adjustable hosel that lets you dial in 16 different loft and lie combinations, there's ample opportunity to make TS2 the most lethal club in your bag. And by any standard, this is Titleist's best fairway wood for overall performance in its history.
PROS:
Easy to hit bomber that gets airborne quickly One of the best fairway woods I ever hit for mishits low on face
Mitsubishi Tensei Blue AV is the real deal stock shaft
CONS:
Less adjustable than it's TS3 sibling (TS2 has fixed CG; whereas TS3 has slot cylinder to create draw or fade bias)
Players looking for a more compact shape should check out the TS3
