Any given week on Tour if you turn on Golf Channel or NBC you're seeing Odyssey putters in the winner's circle on a regular basis. And at a growing rate these Odyssey putters are being used with Stroke Lab shafts. This year the Triple Track line of putters incorporated the Stroke Lab tech, including the Triple Track 10 we're giving away (RH, 35") for DAY 9 in my PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway.
I'll hit some of the key review highlights about Triple Track 10 below, and give you some comparisons to other Odyssey putters I've played in the past. I can tell you right now however, Stroke Lab is legit (I have this shaft in a Toulon Chicago I also reviewed earlier this year for you guys), and Triple Track, while apparently simple at first blush, is actually quite brilliant.
Triple Track 10 looks quite similar to TaylorMade's Spider putters. And this high MOI shape is growing in popularity among many OEMs. It's all about stability with these designs, and Triple Track 10 was one of the most stable putters I used this season, and seriously maybe ever.
You're not going to get much head rotation with Triple Track 10. It feels like it just wants to glide back and straight through. almost like it's on some kind of invisible track. The weight and balance is so stable, even slightly shaky hands don't interrupt the pendulum like feel of the stroke. I have an Odyssey Works 7 putter from a few years back, but never grew as comfortable with that as I was pretty much immediately with Triple Track 10. Just extraordinary balance.
Part of that stable feel also has to do with the Stroke Lab shaft. I won't go a lot into this other than to say it gives the Triple Track 10 (and my Toulon Chicago as well for that matter) a very one-piece sensation. You feel the whole putter move in sync rather than just the head or grip. And that makes the flow and tempo of my stroke with Triple Track 10 feel very consistent and repeatable.
Triple Track of course are the three vertical lines on top of the putter, and are meant to be an alignment aid. Simple stuff, right? Well I was almost shocked how much of a difference it makes. Using the same Triple Track ERC Soft ball I lined up both my old Works 7 putter and Triple Track 10, and more times than I want to admit, my Works 7 was not aligned to the target like Triple Track 10. There's a real mental or psychological thing going on that locks you in to more accurate alignment with Triple Track.
Even with the self-correcting alignment aid however, Triple Track won't be for everyone. I had a friend hit a few putts with it, and although he admitted to feelin more comfortable and confident lining up his putts, and loved the balance of the stroke, he said concentrating on the lines distracted him from a mental vision/feel of seeing his ball follow a line to the hole. Think he's probably in a minority here, but was interesting enough that I thought I'd mention it.
In terms of feel, the new Microhinge insert feels and sounds a bit firmer than the insert on my Works 7. I'm usually not an insert fan because they're generally too soft, so Triple Track 10 firming up a bit was welcome and pleasant for me. Roll was predictably smooth off the face, and I still got plenty of feedback in distance control feel and speed on putts of all lengths.
Triple Track 10 excels at improving accuracy and consistency in both alignment and stability of the stroke. It's the kind of putter destined to be an all-time favorite for many players. Even if you're someone who prefers a blade style putter or your stroke is more suited to that style, Triple Track 10 is so good it just might pull you in as well and make the greens your happy place.
