PUMA Golf has announced a new multi-year partnership with Matti Schmid, a young, athletic star in the making with an impressive and growing resume. After earning Low Amateur honors at the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s earlier this year, where he finished with a second-round 65 to tie the lowest round by an amateur.
During his amateur career, Schmid amassed tremendous success including back-to-back wins at the European Amateur in 2019 and 2020. While on the men’s golf team at the University of Louisville from 2017-2021, Schmid led the team in scoring average, collected multiple top-5 and top-10 finishes, and won the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational in 2018.
“We are delighted that Matti is now officially part of the PUMA family. He is a great talent with a down-to-earth mentality and truly a home-grown athlete from Bavaria,” said Bjoern Gulden, CEO, PUMA. “We look forward to supporting Matti on his successful journey ahead.”
Matti Schmid joins PUMA Golf’s accomplished TOUR family, with well-known stars like Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau and Lexi Thompson, and brings a welcome addition of style and ability. At just 23 years old, Schmid represents the new wave of hot talent entering the professional levels around the world.
“We are elated to welcome Matti to our PUMA Golf family. We believe he is the perfect fit to help expand our global tour visibility,” said Dan Ladd, President & GM, Cobra PUMA Golf. “He embodies the great, young tenacity that our PUMA Golf family has built our brand upon, and we couldn’t be more excited to see his professional career flourish. We will be with him every step of the way.”
As a head-to-toe PUMA Golf athlete, Matti Schmid will flaunt a sporty look of PUMA apparel favorites while on the course. Most notably, the young German will don PUMA’s best-selling PROADAPT DELTA golf shoe—featuring ADAPT foam for ultimate comfort and stability. Designed with elevated performance in mind, the PROADAPT DELTA features a unique adaptive fit system and natural traction elements to aid the focus and confidence of any PUMA athlete.
“Growing up in Germany, I have always been a PUMA fan. As a member at the Golf Club Herzogenaurach, the heart of PUMA, I got to know the people and have been introduced to the cool, innovative products that I know will help me perform my best. It’s an absolute honor for me to be a part of the PUMA family and I am excited about this partnership and our future,” said Matti Schmid.
