Tour Edge Exotics C721 Hybrid Review - PGAPappas Giveaway Guest Review

You guys know I love Tour Edge clubs.  Over the last few years they've been making drivers, woods, hybrids, and irons that go toe-to-toe with big OEMs, and honestly can't even be considered underrated anymore.

And this guest review of the Tour Edge C721 hybrid by Drew on twitter is particularly interesting because it's the first Tour Edge club he's ever played.  And Drew has found ball flight with his new hybrid to be "penetrating and straight, really straight to be honest."

Drew won his new C721 hybrid in my 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway.  And now here's Drew, (@cbusdrew on twitter) in his own words taking about his experience with the C721 hybrid.

I was lucky enough to be one of the two winners of the Tour Edge Exotics C721 Hybrid that PGA Pete was giving away during his 12 Days of Christmas.  First off, thanks Pete for what you do for golf.  Everyone loves hitting that retweet button on a giveaway, but you also have great reviews of products, courses, and events.  Top notch stuff.

I got in contact with Pete about the club, and right away he offered his help with any questions I had about loft and shaft options.  I explained that I'm a mid-single digit handicap with an iron set that goes up to a 4-iron.  I was looking for a stronger lofted hybrid, and if I had a ball flight concern, it was that I tend to get the ball flying a bit too high.

I landed on the 17-degree, and with the option of either the KBS TGI Tour or HZRDUS Smoke Black, Pete and I both agreed that the HZRDUS Smoke Black would be the better option to help keep that ball flight a bit lower.  Unfortunately for me, this shaft was on backorder for two months.  Pete was very helpful checking in with Tour Edge on the order status, so I appreciated that.  It's been a slow Spring in Ohio, so the extra wait wasn't too bad for me.

After the initial unboxing, the first thing I noticed is that the C721 is a very sharp, classic looking club.  I've looked at a few other hybrids, and some of them tend to have a more game-improvement look to them.  The C721 head has a traditional, compact look, and with the 17-degree that I had, it almost felt like looking at a mini 3-wood.  And for my eye and my bag setup, this was perfect.

I was finally able to take it out to the course to test it out.  Fittingly, there was a wind advisory the day I played, so it was the perfect opportunity to test out the ball flight to see if I could keep my hybrid shots from ballooning.  I tested multiple shots both off the tee and off the fairway, and right away I liked what I saw.  Even with the early-season rust and off center hits, the ball flight seemed penetrating and straight.  Really straight, to be honest.   The sweet spot hits really took off, and I didn't have to worry when the shots took on a direct wind.

The trajectory was where I needed the ball to be, especially on a windy day.  The distance of my hits seemed to be on point.  And with this hybrid, I'm not necessarily looking for outrageous distance gains, I just need it to cover that gapping in my set.  Another thing I noticed was the sound of the strike.  It was a bit more muted and heavy sounding than many of the other hybrids and woods that I've hit.  This wasn't something that I really hated or really liked, it was just noticeable, especially when some other clubs can give off that polarizing high pitched "ping" sound.

I'm looking forward to using it this golf season, especially this summer when greens get firmer and rough gets a bit thicker, and I can give it a test with other conditions and lies.  This is also the first Tour Edge product that has been in my bag, and so far I like the way it performs.

Thanks again to Pete and Tour Edge!

And there you have it.  Drew is apparently hitting every kind of shot he wants to hit with his new Tour Edge C721 hybrid, and especially impressive was he was getting that performance on a windy day.

Thanks Drew for a great review.  And you guys can expect more guest reviews throughout the season.  As always if any of you who wins something from me wants to write up a review just let me know.  It's always great to hear your impressions and what stands out for you about the gear you win and it makes all of this even more fun for us all.  Cheers!
