The inaugural Adaptive Open starts next week on Pinehurst No. 6. Designed by George and Tom Fazio and opened in 1979, redesigns and restorations were done by Tom Fazio in 2005 to carve new bunkers, soften angles and seed faster greens.
The championship will reverse the 9s for championship play. Pinehurst No. 6 will be set up to four separate yardages, to coincide with impairment categories.

WHO CAN ENTER
The championship is open to any professional or amateur golfer with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 36.4 who has an eligible impairment confirmed by a WR4GD Pass. Entries closed on May 4. The USGA accepted 299 entries for the inaugural championship.
FIELD COMPOSITION
A player’s individual Handicap Index was the primary factor for determining the field. Committee selections were used to assure field balance and representation from key demographics.
The field includes 96 players, with spots reserved for at least five male players and two female players per impairment category. Impairment categories are:

ABOUT THE U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN
A new national championship that will showcase the world’s best golfers with disabilities, the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship will serve as the USGA’s 15th national championship. The U.S. Adaptive Open showcases and celebrates the adaptive golf community by providing them the stage to achieve their dreams and compete for a national championship.
SCHEDULE OF PLAY
Eighteen holes of stroke play are scheduled each day from July 18 (Monday) through July 20 (Wednesday).
COVERAGE
Television coverage of the Inaugural U.S. Adaptive Open at Pinehurst No. 6 will include the opening ceremony, near real-time highlight packages, human interest features, player interviews and short vignettes educating fans about the championship during Golf Today (Noon to 2 p.m. EDT) and Golf Central (4 to 5 p.m. EDT) on Golf Channel from July 18-21. The trophy ceremony and playoff (if necessary) will be shown on Golf Central on Wed., July 20.
In addition, the USGA will have in-depth coverage on usga.org that will include live scoring, video highlights, course information, written features, photos and video features, as well as daily highlight packages on its YouTube channel.

Carts will be permitted for all players and caddies.
The Modified Rules of Golf for Players with Disabilities, and the Modified Relief Local Rule for Players Using Wheeled Mobility Devices as prescribed by the Clarifications to the 2019 Rules, will be in effect.
