Callaway Golf Announces New Opus SP+ Wedges

Callaway Golf has announced an extension to their line of Opus SP wedges with the new Opus SP+ wedges.  Opus SP+ was designed with Tour preferred shaping and a higher center of gravity for more spin, more precision, and more control.

Opus SP+ takes on the best qualities of Opus SP and combines those qualities with more weight up top, a more hollowed out sole, and a larger Spin Pocket in a new wedge construction.

A multi-material construction is what allows for the increase in spin and control.  And going back to the original Spin Pocket the the idea was to raise the center of gravity for lower, controlled flight and increased spin.

With Opus SP+ Callaway increased the size of the Spin Pocket by 25-percent over the original Opus SP and added 23-percent more tungsten over the original Opus Platinum.  The larger Spin Pocket redistributes weight even higher to generate more spin and a more flighted launch on full shots and pitch shots around the green.  The additional tungsten works in tandem with the larger Spin Pocket to raise the CG even higher to enhance spin and control even more.

Opus SP+ also features a new Spin Gen 2 Face, which is the most advanced face in Opus wedge history.  A new 17-degree groove angle with tighter pitch spacing delivers more groove edge contact for more consistent spin across a variety of lies.  And combined with a deeper cross-hatch laser pattern across the face, Spin Gen 2.0 produces enhanced friction for more bite and stopping power on all types of approach shots.

Callaway has kept the "Shape 6" profile (which was the sixth and final iteration in the Opus prototype shaping phase) as its been validated by Tour players and major champions alike.  The shape offers a precise leading edge and refined sole geometry for exceptional control and playability.  And a MIM face on Opus SP+ also provides an even softer feel.

Opus SP+ is available in three grinds.  The Z grind is a low bounce more forgiving grind for shotmakers who like to open up the face.  The X grind is a higher bounce grind for maximum green side versatility.  And the S grind is a mid bounce option that will suit most players and is very easy to hit.

Callaway will match Opus SP+ specs to the original Opus SP for consistency.  But Opus SP+ will have slightly higher swing weight in the higher lofts.
