The 75th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo to be televised on Golf Channel

One of the most spectacular championships in all of collegiate golf, the Western Intercollegiate attracts talented players from top colleges and universities, all eager to compete for the coveted team trophy and Blue Jacket, which goes to the individual champion.  And next week the 75th annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo will be televised on Golf Channel on April 11-13.

Record Number of Entries Accepted for 77th U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has accepted a record total of 1,874 entries, including 12 champions and 24 of the top 25 players in the world, for the 77th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Presented by ProMedica. The U.S. Women’s Open will be held for the fourth time at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, in Southern Pines, N.C., on June 2-5, 2022.

The previous record was established in 2015 when 1,873 filed entries for the championship at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. More than 1,500 U.S. Women’s Open entries were accepted for the eighth consecutive time. The USGA accepted entries for the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open from golfers in 46 U.S. states and 57 foreign countries.

Heck, Kuehn Named to 2022 USA Curtis Cup Team

Rachel Heck, 20, of Memphis, Tenn., and Rachel Kuehn, 20, of Asheville, N.C., have earned places on the 2022 USA Curtis Cup Team as the top Americans in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking®/WAGR® as of April 6. They will compete against Great Britain and Ireland in the 42nd Curtis Cup Match on June 10-12 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

Since 2018, the three highest-ranked American players in the WAGR as of a predetermined date receive automatic exemptions from the USGA onto the USA Curtis Cup Team. Rose Zhang, of Irvine, Calif., currently No. 1 in WAGR®, had previously been named to the team due to winning the 2021 McCormack Medal. Heck is currently No. 3 in WAGR, while Kuehn is ranked No. 8.

USGA Allocates $1.9M in Golf Course Sustainability Research Grants for 2022

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has invested $1.9 million in grants to fund more than 80 research projects in 2022 through the Mike Davis Program for Advancing Golf Course Management – the largest private turfgrass and environmental research effort in golf’s history.

The USGA’s commitment to the program has totaled nearly $47 million since 1983, and the resulting sustainable management practices have contributed to a 20 percent decrease in water usage and a nearly 40 percent decrease in nutrient usage by golf courses in the last decade.
