Berkeley Country Club now offers Claremont Club & Spa resort guests privileged access to championship golf at one of Northern California’s premier golfing and social destinations. Located in the Berkeley Hills, just minutes from the hotel, the Berkeley Country Club offers a challenging and inspiring course for players of all abilities.
Superbly routed over natural terrain and featuring breathtaking panoramic views of San Francisco Bay, the 18-holes, Par 72 golf course has provided an unparalleled golf experience for more than a century.
Established in 1920 by founding member Robert Hunter (co-designer of Cypress Point) and William “Willie” Watson (Olympic Club architect), the Berkeley Country Club was the site of the 1929 Berkeley Open won by Horton Smith (Masters Champion 1934 and 1936), as well as an exhibition match featuring a pair of then-reigning champions, Johnny Farrell (US Open) and Walter Hagen (British Open).
The golf course underwent an award-winning restoration in 2011 that restored original vistas and bunkers and incorporated water conservation and sustainability features that received national recognition, including the “Award for Excellence” from the American Golf Architects Association.
Guests of the Claremont can now enjoy all of the Club’s golfing and social amenities, including the award-winning golf course, driving range, practice putting green, pro shop, and classic bar and dining room in the Tudor-style Clubhouse. Rental clubs and carts are available, with individual and group reservations available through the Claremont guest experience team.
