COBRA KING LTDx Irons FIRST LOOK - Engineered for Total Performance

COBRA Golf isn't just going to make a big splash in the game-improvement category of irons in 2022.  They're going all-out cannonball with the new KING LTDx Irons.  Feel, sound, distance, and forgiveness have all been re-engineered to give golfers everything COBRA can possibly give you.

I got a chance to hit the LTDx irons in December and will have a full review on them soon.  Short synopsis right now though?  They made me fall in love with game-improvement irons again.  And COBRA really has improved every performance category with these LTDx irons.

So let's get into some of the new LTDx irons tech.  And it all starts with their intelligent PWR-COR Weighting design.  PWR-COR is a multi-material steel core bar that's suspended in a lightweight and soft polymer that's completely separated from the face, sole, and body.

The floating core bar allows COBRA to precisely position CG directly behind the impact zone for more mass where you want it most.  More mass means more power.  More power means more distance.  And because the PWR-COR is not touching the face, this also allows for more face flexibility and maximum energy transfer to the ball.  And I can tell you LTDx are long.  Really really long.

The polymer filler injected around the core bar serves two purposes.  First, it enhances the elastic rebound effect of the face.  And second, it also dampens vibrations and provides an exceptional feel and sound.  I told you COBRA is leaving no stone unturned with the LTDx irons.

LTDx also features an updated PWRSHELL Face Technology.  The PWRSHELL design utilizes a variable thickness L-cup insert that expands the thin area on the face by 23-percent, which expands your zone of maximum ball speed   And it's pretty freaking insane.

Here's an example, and no exaggeration.  I hit a 7-iron during my round at Dove Mountain in December pretty low on the face (and yes there's still enough feedback to know where you strike the ball).  It was definitely closer to a bladed shot than a flushed one.  And what happens?  Instead of an extremely low launching shot, my ball still flew relatively high and landed soft enough to hold the green.  My jaw dropped wide open, I probably laughed out loud, and it made me wonder if I've ever hit a more forgiving iron than this LTDx.

More ball speed over a larger area of the face will of course mean more consistent and reliable distances on off-center strikes.  Combined with the PWR-COR weight design, the LTDx irons deliver COBRA's most flexible iron design ever (5-percent more face deflection than the previous RADSPEED irons).  And the LTDx face is milled for precision and consistency.

LTDx is also slimmed down in appearance compared to the RADSPEED irons.  A thinner topline gives LTDx a more powerful look, and some of the weight saved was moved lower to help launch shots higher (particularly on mishits).  In one way, shape, or form, everything about the LTDx irons was improved in pursuit of the perfect blend of forgiveness, high launch, exceptional feel, and longest total distance.

LTDx Irons are available in both Variable and ONE Length offerings, allowing players to choose from the more traditional variable length or ONE length for improved simplicity and consistency of contact area.  A new innovative, adjustable toe-screw allows COBRA custom club department to create the perfect build for any configuration.

And just a quick word on the ONE Length version.  COBRA has sold more than 65,000 ONE Length iron sets since 2017.  These aren't just for beginners or some kind of fad.  Player satisfaction is extremely high.  And over the years COBRA has made tweaks to head weighting, lie angles, and shaft adjustments (to mention just a few areas) allowing them to improve and fine-tune ONE Length performance and gapping that's on par and in many cases even better than variable length.

LTDx Variable Length irons are available in a Chrome finish with Gold Fusion accents and come stock in 5-GW (RH/LH; Steel – $899) or 4-PW (RH; Steel - $899), as well as a graphite combo set 5H, 6-GW (RH/LH; $1099) set makeups.  Each steel option comes standard with a KBS Tour 90 shaft (reg & stiff) and a Lamkin Crossline (58+) Black grip. The stock graphite offering utilizes a KBS PGI (85 – Stiff flex; 75 – Regular flex; 65 – Lite flex, and a 55 in women’s flex).

COBRA LTDx ONE Length irons are available in a Chrome finish with a Blue/Red accents on the medallion and come stock in a 5-GW (RH/LH; Steel – $899) and a graphite combo set 5H (ONE Length hybrid), and 6-GW ONE Length irons (RH; $1099). The ONE Length irons feature progressive steel shaft weights (available in Stiff & Regular flex) to optimize trajectory through the set.  The long irons (4-6 iron) feature a lighter Tour 80 shaft to promote higher launch, the mid irons (7-9i) feature a mid-weight Tour 90 shaft, and the wedges use a heavier Tour 120 shaft to promote a lower ball flight for more accuracy.  The stock graphite offering utilizes a KBS PGI (85 – S; 75 – R; 65 – A).  Each iron comes equipped with a Lamkin Crossline (58R+) grip.

Women’s LTDx iron offerings: The LTDx Irons are available in ladies flex in a Chrome/Elderberry colorway with a KBS PGI 55 (50g) shaft and Lamkin Crossline Undersize (60R) grip. A combo set is also available in 5H, 6H, 7-PW, SW (RH).

    1. Honest, it was like I said after hitting just a few shots with them - made me think maybe I should just be playing game-improvement irons, lol. No denying I just hit better shots more often with these.

    1. I wish I did but most of my swings came playing on course with standard weight rather than tweaking on range.
