I've been telling you guys about Aerotech SteelFiber golf shafts for a long time now. They're long, great feeling, and incredibly stable. In a nutshell the kind of shafts that can legitimately improve your game immediately. I have SteelFiber shafts in multiple iron sets and absolutely love em.
Aerotech SteelFiber shafts have more PGA Tour wins than any graphite iron shaft in history, and are used by many players (including World No. 2 Nelly Korda). And Todd won his own full set of Aerotech SteelFiber Private Reserve shafts in my PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Letters from Santa Giveaway. Todd says they've given him "less dispersion, great feel, and consistent distance."
Private Reserve are designed with even tighter tolerances than the standard SteelFiber. In his own words here's what Todd (@Todd3pc on twitter) thinks of his new Aerotech SteelFiber Private Reserve shafts.
First, let me start of by saying that I am not a shaft nerd, but I do understand the basics. This will be my first shaft review and I must say thank you to Pete for his awesome giveaways, especially his massive mind-blowing Christmas giveaway. As it turns out, I couldn’t have won a better prize because I had been accumulating the parts for my dream irons and the shafts were the last piece of the puzzle.
The Aerotech SteelFiber Private Reserve shafts were the perfect shafts to complete my irons. I chose the i95 Stiff flex which was based of my existing iron shafts. To begin with the shafts look great. They are a dark bronze color with tasteful, need I say “Black Label”, labelling.
After the clubs were assembled, I did not put them straight in the bag. I hit them in my yard for a week or two to get a feel for them and to see if there was any distance change. From the first swing I noticed how smooth they were. I know that is a term used much with shafts so let me explain.
From the takeaway through impact and follow through there was no extra flexing or vibrations felt. They honestly felt like an extension of my arms. As far as distance, there was no drastic change. I did notice that they were shorter at times but that was due to the fact that I was not swinging as hard with these shafts, which is a good thing. So, in reality, when I swing at 100%, they were 5-10 yards longer.
Once I got them on the course, I noticed two things. First. I still had my normal misses on shots but the dispersion of those misses was less. On miss hits with my irons, I either hit a straight pull or about a 10–15-yard fade. With these shafts both the pull and the fade were less, resulting in a tighter dispersion on miss hits. I’ll take my miss hits 5-10 yards closer to target line any day.
Secondly, my good shots were better. I typically shoot low to mid -80’s with the occasional venture into the 70’s. With that said, my good shots do out number my misses on any given day. With these shafts, it didn’t take me long for me to figure out that I could aim where I wanted the ball to go instead of having to adjust my aim to accommodate my misses. This was a welcome and unexpected discovery from using these shafts.
In summary, less dispersion, great feel, and consistent distance was what the Aerotech SteelFiber Private Reserve shaft produced. And, I may never look for another.
And there you have it. Thanks for the great review Todd and extremely happy you found the perfect shafts for your dream iron set!
For many players Aerotech SteelFiber shafts will be some of the best iron shafts you can play. Been saying this for awhile. And that certainly seems to be the case for Todd.
Low and high handicaps, slow and fast swings. SteelFiber delivers every performance benefit you want from steel, but with improved feel, added and more controllable distance, and even more stability. And that's what you call unleashing your very best iron play.
More guest reviews coming soon. Cheers all!
Great comments... While testing the 60i A flex at a local fitting shop, I had a similar impression. Considering seriously to have them fitted on my iron set.
ReplyDeleteI put together an Apex TCB AW using Steelfiber Private Reserve i75 Wedge flex shafts (67 years old, 7 - 8 index). It was one of the best clubs in my bag for full shots and around the green. Shot Scope said noticeably better accuracy than my other clubs. When I switched to Paradym irons (HZRDUS Gen 4 silver 65 R shafts), I eventually put it back in the bag and it excelled again. So I bought an Apex TCB PW and a Paradym 7 iron and built up clubs with (3 years later) I70 R flex SF PR shafts. At my range the second shot at the driving range hit the pin. That weekend a PW downhill 100 yard shot was less than 3 feet from the pin. The shafts are crazy accurate. Sounds like hype - I've played regular SteelFiber shafts too - and these 'Private Reserve' - are an unambiguous upgrade. Expensive but well worth it. Switching all my clubs. Magic. Recommended.
