2022 Play With Pete Invitational at Pasatiempo Golf Club - How to Sign Up and All the Details

The legendary Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California is hallowed ground in the world of golf course architecture.  It's the most beloved course designed by one of the most beloved golf course architects.

And on June 13th, eight of you will become a part of Pasatiempo Golf Club's storied 93 year history, and leave your own footprints on this Alister MacKenzie masterpiece.

When you play Pasatiempo it becomes a part of your soul.  It's the kind of course that makes you feel like you've gone back in time, with slopes and undulations, uneven lies, a variety of risk-rewards, and of course those sprawling MacKenzie bunkers.  Pasatiempo is a perfectly manicured labyrinth maze with pitfalls lurking at every corner and the most satisfying rewards if you maneuver around with skill and poise.  Just the way The Good Doctor intended.

MacKenzie left his indelible mark on golf course architecture designing courses like Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Royal Melbourne in Australia.  But the adventurous challenges and architectural glory of Pasatiempo Golf Course made this course dearest to his heart.  In fact, MacKenzie loved Pasatiempo so much he built a home here off the 6th fairway, and would often host parties for friends and set up full bars on various holes to compete for prizes.

 

Legends of all generations have fond memories and reverence for this MacKenzie gem.  Luminaries Bobby Jones and Marion Hollins hit the ceremonial first tee shots to officially open Pasatiempo in 1929.  MacKenzie himself calls the infamous No. 16 with its multi-tiered, sitwell green "the best two-shot hole I know," and the entire back nine "the best nine holes in golf."

Pasatiempo is drenched with genius.  It will challenge your intellectual ability when deciding how to navigate through and attack each hole.  No two holes feel the same.  It demands you overcome fears and intimidations.  Every club in your bag will be pulled.  It will confound and entertain in equal parts.

 

Strategic lines of play, endlessly undulating natural contours and mounding, rugged bunkering and hazards, and dazzling views and elevation changes make Pasatiempo one of the greatest courses ever designed.  Glorious and unforgettable by any measure.  Simply put, Pasatiempo is a proper test of golf that pushes the boundaries of golf course architecture to the ideal of perfection.

The inaugural Play with Pete Invitational was at Oakland Hills Country Club in 2018, and it's grown astronomically ever since.  So much so that we're looking at something like a PGAPappas Tour much sooner than later, with Play With Pete Invitationals every month or every other month from historic courses all around the country.  We've had a few already at Inverness Club, a few more at The Ocean Course at Kiawah.  And excitement and interest keeps growing from courses, partners, and of course the stars - you, to be a part of Play With Pete.

 

The last few years alone, I've received over 1,000 emails and DMs on twitter and Instagram to participate in each Play With Pete Invitational, and I'm especially excited about this year edition from Pasatiempo.  And I can promise you right now, Pasatiempo will be on every Play With Pete Invitational west coast swing moving forward.  By any and every standard or measure, Pasatiempo is one of the world's greatest venues.

Play With Pete Invitational at Pasatiempo will be Monday, June 13th 2022 with a mid afternoon tee time.  When the players arrive they'll meet and greet and I'll start handing out some of the swag they'll be receiving.  You'll have to arrive to the course early morning (more on that in a bit, and it's flat out awesome).

 

Your day will start with a personal tour of the clubhouse.  It's an absolutely marvelous homage to MacKenzie, Hollins, and everything Pasatiempo.  Feel free to take photos and videos throughout.  I'll also be capturing pictures and videos of the players throughout the entire day.

After your tour wraps up we'll have breakfast at the MacKenzie Bar & Grill or The Hollins House - maybe.  I say maybe because these are currently being remodeled, so I don't know at the time of this writing if they will be open.  But we'll figure it out.

 

The MacKenzie Bar & Grille is located inside the Pasatiempo clubhouse and is a tribute to everything legendary about The Good Doctor.  The Hollins House is named in honor of Marion Hollins, who designed the 16th hole at Cypress Point, laid the blueprint for Augusta National, captained the first U.S. Curtis Cup team, and hired MacKenzie to design Pasatiempo.

But wait, you know there's more.

 

You'll also know what it's like to be a pro golfer for a day, because you're going to be treated to some insanely great gear for your day at Pasatiempo by some of the biggest names in golf.

When you arrive in the morning on June 13th I'm going to give every player a full TravisMathew and Cuater outfit so you can walk this historic course in comfort and style.  You'll be able to choose any TravisMathew cap, shirt, pullover, pants, belt, socks, and any Cuater golf shoes.  Go into the charming Pasatiempo Golf Club locker room in whatever you're wearing when you arrive.  And come out dressed to the nines and ready for battle.  Almost like a Bruce Wayne to Batman kinda transformation.

The entire event we'll have livestreams, pics, videos, player interviews, jubilant triumphs, crushing defeats, and some incredible insight into Pasatiempo's championship personality throughout the day.

We'll even have chances for all of you following along to win prizes, as well at surprise contests for the players competing.  It's going to be an absolutely unforgettable day and insanely amazing experience for all.

 

After the round is finished, we'll all regroup back at the Pasatiempo Clubhouse to have drinks, share stories about the day, and no doubt have memories and new friendships that will last a lifetime.
