First Jack Nicklaus European Luxury Residential and Golf Development Launches at Stonehaven Scotland

Nicklaus Companies and award-winning developer FM Group have teamed up to launch the first Jack Nicklaus-branded residential golf community in Europe at Stonehaven, Scotland.

A stunning development of luxury homes at the historic Ury Estate, built around an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, currently under construction, and including the magnificent Ury Castle, this is set to be one of the most impressive residential golf communities in the world.

While Nicklaus Companies have designed over 430 golf courses in 46 countries worldwide, fewer than 10 have been selected to brand the real-estate offering, which speaks to the special nature of Ury’s setting.

The first phase of the 1,600 acre multi-million-pound development is launched today (3rd October), comprising fully-serviced self-build plots and five-bedroom luxury homes for sale within The Nicklaus Village. The Village is the first of three phases of development that will be released, including Golden Bear Homes and The Jack Nicklaus Retreat. No other development in the world features three Nicklaus-branded real estate enclaves of homes.

Owners can either buy or build their dream home, located on the edge of the magnificent Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, with most affording a spectacular view of it.

The exclusive neighborhood also boasts views of the historic Ury Castle and is set within a stunning rural landscape, delivering the ultimate in countryside living.

Nestled between the rich countryside and stunning coastline of Aberdeenshire, with the historic harbor town of Stonehaven nearby, Aberdeen International Airport is a mere 30-minute drive away via the A90 bypass.

Known worldwide as the ‘Golden Bear’, Jack is an 18-time major championship winner, including the Opens he won on Scottish soil, twice at St Andrews (1970 and 1978) and at Muirfield (1966). Jack’s love of Scotland is well-recognized and was acknowledged in 2005 when the Golden Bear became the only living non-UK national to feature on British currency. He was recently made an honorary citizen of St Andrews.

Commenting on the launch of the development, Jack Nicklaus said:

“Here we are just south of Aberdeen in Stonehaven with the beautiful castle on the hill. You stand up there with the castle, and you see the bay and the water. It’s a pretty view and pretty area, with great tradition.

“The Scottish people have always been very nice to me. I guess they like somebody who excels at what they do, and I’ve excelled in Scotland. Anytime you win at St. Andrews, you’ve got to play some pretty special golf, and it’s a very special feeling. Bobby Jones always said that your golfing resume is not complete unless you have won at St. Andrews. I won at St. Andrews and I’m proud that I won again at St. Andrews.

“We are trying to create not only a golf course, but a way of life around what we’ve done, what I’ve done. If we can do that within the community, participating in the growth and feeling of the community, that is what we like to do.”

Jonathon Milne from site owner and developer, the FM Group, commented:

“We couldn’t be more excited to be launching The Nicklaus Village, a luxury lifestyle community that will be unique in Scotland’s northeast.

“Nicklaus Companies have a proven track record of creating stunning residential communities at their courses world-wide, and we are very proud to be bringing Europe’s first Nicklaus branded residential development to Scotland.

“Ury Estate is a unique development which is set to be one of the world’s most prestigious golfing destinations. We are delighted to be creating the opportunity for people to buy or build their dream home at the course.

“The Nicklaus Village at Ury Estate offers a luxury lifestyle experience, with family homes situated in a country setting affording a spectacular panorama of the Aberdeenshire countryside and coastline.

“With a limited number of plots available, we’re expecting considerable demand from interested buyers both locally and internationally. This will include both golf enthusiasts and those who want to enjoy life in a stunning natural setting.”

Andy O’Brien, President of Nicklaus Brands, which continues to manage and expand the iconic brands first introduced by Jack Nicklaus over 50 years ago said:

“From the moment Jack and our design team set foot on this historic piece of property over a decade ago, we knew it was going to be special in many ways.

“We are proud to be launching our first branded real estate development in Europe in Scotland, the home of golf, which holds such a special place in Jack’s career.”

Dirk Bouts, Senior Designer at Nicklaus Design said:

“Ury Castle is a stunning piece of property in one of the great golf areas in the world.

“Jack made sure that the golf course relates to the castle as much as possible.  He also maximized the use of the existing river and burns, incorporating other features like existing stone walls and bridges, playing through treed areas and open fields and, of course, taking advantage of the magnificent views all around.”

Prices range from £600,000 for fully-serviced self-build plots and from £950,000 for the luxury homes.
