Mizuno, the Japanese equipment manufacturer long renowned for its technically advanced golf equipment, has announced the signings of two talented players – Ben Griffin and Jacob Bergeron – as the company continues to expand its team and look to the future.
Continuing its recent tour regeneration and recruitment of exciting, emerging talent, Mizuno has announced that PGA Tour player Ben Griffin (pictured above) has joined Team Mizuno.
Ben Griffin (26) earned his status on the 2022/23 PGA Tour via a 15th place finish on the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour. He finished tied 4th in the PGA Tour’s 2022 Wyndham Championship and was tied 3rd in November’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He currently sits 34th on the FedEx Cup Rankings. A graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Griffin turned pro in 2018 and has steadily made his way through the ranks to reach the main Tour this season. A great all-round player, Griffin has made eight cuts from nine starts so far on the 2022/23 PGA Tour.
“We’re very excited to have Ben join Team Mizuno,” says Jeff Cook, PGA Tour manager. “He’s one of the most consistent and promising players on the PGA Tour right now and a perfect fit for us. We’re committed to helping young golfers reach their potential and to create future Mizuno Major champions. Ben has all the skills to reach the very top of the game and we’re thrilled to be able to help him on his journey over the coming seasons.”
Griffin’s journey with Mizuno began during a multi-brand driver testing in which the Mizuno STX 230 stood out for the 26-year-old. He put it in play, enjoyed success with it and was inspired to add further Mizuno equipment to his bag.
“My relationship with Mizuno all started with the new STX 230 driver this fall. I fell in love with it while testing drivers from all brands and quickly put it into play on the PGA Tour,” he says. “After success on the course, we looked at adding the MP221 irons into the bag. The transition into the #1 irons in golf was as seamless as it gets and partnering with Mizuno became an easy decision. My Rookie campaign on the PGA Tour has been an incredible experience so far and it’s only going to get better having the Mizuno team behind me. I’m very grateful to make things official and look forward to my journey alongside Mizuno Golf.”
In addition, Mizuno is also delighted to welcome Jacob Bergeron to Team Mizuno. 24-year-old Bergeron played collegiately at Louisiana State University, going there as the 11th ranked junior player in the US. He has played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and the Korn Ferry Tour. He placed second in the 2022 Live and Work in Maine Open and finished 65th on the Korn Ferry Tour points list for the season.
“It’s great to welcome both Ben and Jacob to Mizuno,” says Jeremy Galbreth, Senior Director of Golf for Mizuno. “They are young and talented players at the start of their professional careers. Ben has already enjoyed success on the PGA Tour and we’re excited to support him as he climbs further up the ladder. Jacob has demonstrated his potential with results on the Korn Ferry Tour and he will be looking to move up to the main circuit after this season. We’re confident we can help him take that next step.”
Mizuno has a strong track record of the top golfers playing its equipment – either as they play their way through the ranks or as elite-level free agents. As of January 2023, 13 of the 25 players ever to be ranked world #1 in the men’s game had played Mizuno equipment during their careers. With increasing sponsorship money now entering the game, Mizuno believes the time is right to focus its efforts on developing emerging talent.
Griffin and Bergeron join a raft of talent on Team Mizuno, including former world #1’s Luke Donald and Stacy Lewis, along with PGA Tour stars Keith Mitchell, Greyson Sigg and Erik Barnes plus the DP World Tour’s Adrien Saddier.
