Lin, Kim Share First-Round Lead at Damp, Chilly Pebble Beach

A marine layer, temperatures in the 50s, and some morning mist seemed like the perfect way to start the 78th U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Why not greet the game’s best female players with some traditional Monterey Peninsula weather.

Such was the setting on the first Thursday of July for the first female major championship ever being contested on this iconic layout. And the course more than lived up to the billing.

Pine Valley Golf Club To Host 2034 Curtis Cup Match

Pine Valley Golf Club, in Pine Hill, N.J., will host the 2034 Curtis Cup Match, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced today. The venerable golf club has previously hosted the 1936 and 1985 Walker Cup Matches.

“We are committed to bringing our championships to the finest golf courses in the country, and over the last several years, that commitment has only strengthened for our women’s championships,” said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA. “That is why, on the eve of a monumental first U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, this is a fitting and historic announcement for the Curtis Cup and the USGA.”

2nd U.S. Adaptive Open – Fact Sheet

The second U.S. Adaptive Open kicks off next week from Pinehurst No. 6.  The course was designed by George and Tom Fazio and opened in 1979.

Redesigns and restorations were done by Tom Fazio in 2005 to carve new bunkers, soften angles and seed faster greens. The nines will be reversed for championship play. 

USGA Gives Fans More Ways than Ever to Follow the Action from the 78th U.S. Women’s Open

Fans will be able to follow the U.S. Women’s Open Championship like never before thanks to a comprehensive suite of digital offerings that will immerse audiences in the action at renowned Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links from July 6-9.

In addition, every televised shot of the U.S. Women’s Open will be available on demand within each player’s scorecard. Fans can also add an unlimited number of players to their favorites and receive alerts when they start and finish their rounds and have completed nine holes. For the first time, the USGA App will feature live scoring and coverage of all 15 USGA championships through an elevated user experience that will provide a more engaging digital landscape in which fans can immerse themselves.

For the first time in women’s golf history, ShotCast powered by Cisco will allow fans to follow the U.S. Women’s Open like never before, with a next-generation digital experience featuring every shot from every player. The USGA will utilize the PGA Tour’s ShotLink state-of-the-art scoring technology to bring fans closer than ever to all of the action. The elevated experience will be available on both the app and the web and will include dynamic shot trails, radar data, green views and video highlights, so fans can follow everything up-to-the minute live or catch up on their favorite players after the round. Fans will be able to follow every shot with amazing 3D hole imagery. Whether keeping up with their favorite players on the go or getting more insights while watching the action, fans will enjoy detail and depth with each hole of the iconic layout.  

Live Streaming on Any Device Presented by American Express  

Up to 10 hours per day of featured groups coverage, presented by American Express, will be available for all four rounds of the championship on uswomensopen.com and on the USGA app for iOS and Android. Live streaming of featured groups will also be available on the free USGA OnDemand app on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV, with full leader board integration within the viewing experience. Additionally, Xbox and, for the first time, Samsung Smart TVs, will also have live streaming available on their platforms via USGA OnDemand.  

Record Amount of Weekend NBC Coverage, Including Primetime  

NBC Sports will present exclusive coverage of the U.S. Women’s Open from iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links across NBC, Peacock and USA Network. NBC Sports’ presentation will include a record 12 hours of coverage on the NBC broadcast network on Saturday and Sunday, including live primetime coverage for the first time in championship history. 

Pre-championship coverage begins Tuesday, July 4, with Golf Central Live From the U.S. Women’s Open on Golf Channel and Peacock, surrounding the championship with more than 25 hours of live studio coverage. 

NBC Sports will also complement U.S. Women’s Open coverage with live featured group coverage Thursday through Sunday.  

Interactive ArtBall NFTs Transcend Traditional Boundaries  

The USGA and Pebble Beach Company also announce the launch of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open ArtBall – a gamified NFT project that leverages the rich data connected to the championship, allowing fans to engage in the championship like never before. NFT holders will be randomly assigned a plot on and around the par-3 17th hole at Pebble Beach. 78th U.S. Women's Open Championship Storylines

This is the 78th U.S. Women’s Open Championship and the fifth in the state of California.

The first U.S. Women’s Open, played at Spokane (Wash.) Country Club in 1946 and won by Patty Berg, was the only one conducted at match play. The Women’s Professional Golfers Association (WPGA) conducted three U.S. Women’s Opens, and in 1949, the newly formed Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) took over operation of the championship. The LPGA ran the Women’s Open for four years, but in 1953 asked the United States Golf Association (USGA) to conduct the championship, which it has done ever since.

USGA Announces Tee Times for 78th U.S. Women's Open Championship

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced tee times for the first two rounds of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open Championship, Thursday (July 6) and Friday (July 7), at 6,509-yard, par-72 Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links.

The U.S. Women’s Open is a 72-hole, stroke-play competition. A field of 156 players will play 18 holes of stroke play on July 6 and 7, after which the field will be reduced to the low 60 scores and ties. Those players making the cut will play 18 holes on July 8 and 9. If there is a tie upon the completion of 72 holes, a two-hole aggregate playoff will immediately follow. If this playoff results in a tie, the tied players will immediately continue to play off hole-by-hole until the winner is determined.

USGA Announces Three Additional Exemptions for 78th U.S. Women’s Open Championship

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced that three additional players have earned full exemptions into the 78th U.S. Women’s Open Championship, to be contested July 6-9 at Pebble Beach Golf Links, based on the current Women’s Rolex World Golf Rankings, bringing the number of fully exempt players to 89. Additionally, two alternates from qualifying were added to the field.

Akie Iwai, of Japan, who had qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open on May 29 in Japan, is now fully exempt based on her No. 50 ranking. This will be her first appearance in the championship. Now that Iwai is fully exempt, Chizuru Komiya, first alternate from the Japan qualifying site, has been added to the field and will also make her championship debut.

It was a Sunday for the ages for Bernhard Langer and his golf equipment sponsor Tour Edge at the 43rd U.S. Senior Open in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Their ageless staff player won for the 46th time on the PGA TOUR Champions, setting the record for all-time victories, picking up his 14th major championship trophy and breaking his own record as the oldest PGA TOUR winner at 65 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Ageless Wonder Bernhard Langer Leads at Midway Point in 43rd U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld

Bernhard Langer will tell anyone that age is just a number. The birth certificate might say he’s 65, but the German doesn’t look or play like someone headed for a comfortable retirement recliner.

Certainly not after the World Golf Hall of Famer carded a 3-under 68 on Friday at SentryWorld to take a one-shot lead over first-round leader Rod Pampling, of Australia, into the weekend of the 43rd U.S. Senior Open Championship. Langer, who opened with a 71, sits at 139 through 36 holes.

Rickie Fowler Plays Basketball in Detroit with PUMA Golf

PUMA Golf disrupts sport culture by fusing golf and basketball at The Rocket Mortgage Classic this week in Detroit. The launch features a green turf basketball court complete with baskets, where fans will be able to shoot some hoops while watching the PGA Tour event.

PXG Atlanta Partners with STEM Atlanta Women to Deliver a Hands-on, Interactive Experience Centered Around the Science of Golf

As PXG continues to serve golfers in the greater Atlanta area, the company is also determined to put its extensive product research and development background and its unabashed love of the game to work for the community. Recently, PXG partnered with STEM Atlanta Women to provide local students with a new perspective on golf through the lens of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and sports.

PXG hosted "The Science of Golf" experience at PXG Atlanta in Buckhead, Georgia. The immersive program featured four interactive experiments developed and led by PXG Engineers and Master Fitters.
