The Art of Thermo Regulation: A Closer Look at the Galvin Green Multi Layer Concept and Technologies

Textile engineer Sofia Ask Klason has been with Galvin Green for more than two years as Product Manager, and she is responsible for all of the collections.  Klason has a deep knowledge of manufacturing methods, fabric technology and textile chemistry, and that allows her to provide golfers with the best Galvin Green garments around the world.

So there's probably no one better suited to answer questions about how best to stay warm on the golf course.  Here's a a really interesting Q&A with Sofia, where she answers some questions I know we've all had at one point or another, and also explains what makes Galvin Green's technologies such game-changers.

Q:  Getting dressed for a day on the golf course, what should I think about?

Sofia:  It depends on the weather, but if you live in northern Europe there's always a risk that the weather is both chilly and wet.  At Galvin Green, we have a multi-layer concept and the first thing to consider is the base layer.

If you know it’s going to be cold, you want to keep your body both dry and warm.  Our Skintight Thermal is perfect for that.  It has maximum breathability and enables the release of excess heat and moisture.

Q:  Does Skintight also help to keep me warm?

Sofia:  Yes, the material has thermal insulation technology for optimum warmth.

But if you're playing on a nice spring day and you know the weather is getting warmer by the hour, you had better choose a Ventil8 shirt that keeps you fresh all day.

Q:  Now I’ve got my base layer, what’s next?

Sofia:  Go for one of our INSULA sweaters, which is a very versatile garment.  It has built-in air chambers that are warmed by the body heat and provide extremely effective and long-lasting thermal insulation.  At the same time, it has maximum breathability that enables the release of excess heat and moisture.

When there’s no wind, an INSULA sweater may be all you need for a day on the golf course.  This season, Galvin Green has also added styles with a padded front and back for some extra warmth in cooler weather.  Our INSULA sweaters are very soft and comfortable to wear thanks to the napped fabric.  The elastane also makes it stretchy, which adds to the comfort.

Q:  With my Skintight Thermal and an INSULA sweater I'm warm. But will they help me against the wind?

Sofia:  No, now you need to add an INTERFACE-1 jacket which is totally wind- proof, extremely breathable and water repellent.  When you put an INTERFACE-1 jacket over an INSULA sweater and a Skintight Thermal you get the benefits of all materials.

You feel warm and protected from the cold wind, yet you never feel sticky because of the fabric's ability to transport moisture.  The stretch also makes them the perfect golf gear.  You can move freely as the fabric moves with you and enables you to play your best golf.

Q:  Perfect, but what about the rain?

Sofia:  If it's just a drizzle, you will be fine with what you are wearing now.  But, if the weather forecast predicts rain, I would advise you to put on something guaranteed to keep you dry from our GORE-TEX range instead.

A jacket in GORE-TEX fabric with C-knit backer has a super smooth texture that "slides & glides" over the garments underneath.  It completes the other layers by also being lightweight and having excellent breathability.   Nothing can stop you now!
