Sights from the 2021 U.S. Open Championship at Torrey Pines South Course - Monday Practice Round

A field of 156 players, including defending champion Bryson DeChambeau and favorite to win the U.S. Open Jon Rahm landed on Torrey Pines South Course today as preparations began for the 121st playing of the national championship.

The South Course will play to a par-71, and yardage is listed at 7,652.  However yardage will vary each round and South can play up to 7,800+ yards, which would make it possibly the longest course in U.S. Open history.

Players who came out in January for the Farmers know this week will be a completely different animal.  The bentgrass/poa annua greens will run at the same speeds, the fairways will be the same width, even the winds are expected to blow from the same direction.  But the big contrast will be the rough.  The kikuyu rough is diabolical.

Here's a look at some of the action from Monday's practice round.
