New Titleist T100, T100S, and T200 Irons (2021) - First Look Review

Here's a quick summary of results and impressions from my fitting for the new 2021 Titleist T-Series irons.

I hit the new T100, T200, and T100S irons in that order.  And there happened to be some last gen T100 and T200 irons at my fitting, so I warmed up with those first for a general baseline and feel.

With the new T100 I immediately noticed a stronger, deeper pure feel at impact.  It also seems to be slightly more forgiving on mishits around center (in all directions).  Still have the feedback you’d expect on mishits, but now also less harsh than the last gen.

Spin rates dropped negligibly on low/heel misses but peak heights remained consistent, and distance differences only amounted to a few yards.  On low/toe misses the spin rates dropped more and peak heights dropped about 6 to 7 yards, with distance loss moving towards about half a club.  All in all, quite forgiving and impressive for this model.

Next up was the new T200.  Expecting this to be my favorite (it was last gen), it did not disappoint. The new T200 ball speeds were 2-4 mph faster than T100, with an improvement on feel over last gen T200.  Started to get the feeling this would be a theme working here for the new Titleist irons.  And all three models do in fact have a stronger, deeper, solid feel, with the T200 also having a hushed click at impact.

T200 launch was slightly lower than T100 with significantly lower spin, about 1,000+ rpm.  Still, even with that lower spin the ball rises fast to somewhat similar peak heights with extremely similar descents.  And this is another area of improvement over the last gen T200.  The new T200 isn't just a high launch, low spin monster.  It's a controllable distance iron with precision and stopping power built in.  Honestly, after hitting T200 I thought this was going to be my winner again this year.

Misses with T200 tended to be just off center to left (but not as far left as the previous gen), and peak heights were similarly consistent along with T100.  I did get more consistent and higher spin with T100 than T200 (on both good strikes and misses), but T200 spin overall as mentioned is great for a players distance iron.

T100-S was the big surprise and winner for me. First, I got ball speeds virtually identical to T200 on similar swing speeds.  But on top of that, for some reason I also had higher swing speeds with T100-S by a few mph than both T100 and T200.  So not only did T100-S give me comparatively higher ball speeds on similar swing speeds, it also have me more overall swing and ball speed in an absolute sense as well.  I didn't see this coming at all.

There's also a clear feeling of delivering more mass into impact with T100S than both the T100 and T200 that I absolutely loved.  It's not a heavy feeling, just very powerful at impact.  And that moment just prior to and into impact felt incredibly stable and controllable.  T100S misses were more center and right (like T100), but surprisingly also gave me the tightest dispersion of all three.

T100-S launched higher than T200 and a tad higher than T100. Descent between T100-S and T100 was almost identical (with T100-S coming down just a bit steeper), and peak heights were about 8-10 yards higher.  T100-S spin was higher than T200 and just a few hundred rpm's lower than T100.  I did have slightly more consistent spin and peak height with T100-S compared to both other irons.

On misses low/heel T100S peak height was almost as good as perfect strikes with descent only a degree or so less, and spin rates a few hundred rpm higher.  On misses low/toe again great and nearly identical descent (though a tad lower peak height).

What really stood out though with T100S off-center strikes was how consistent and similar ball speed and distance was on both low/heel and low/toe misses.  I'm talking almost identical results.

Overall T100S gave me the added distance you’d expect from T200, but with higher spin, launch, and descent.  Add in that the T100S profile and feel are pretty much indistinguishable from T100.  Then combine that with T100S tighter dispersion and better numbers and performance on mishits (particularly low on face).  And you can see why T100S was the winner for me.

Titleist clearly improved on just about everything in varying degrees with the new T-Series irons.  But those T100S irons?  I've been waiting for you my entire life baby.
