When you're reading a golf review (or any kind of product review really) you want an honest opinion that helps you make a decision whether something is right for you. And that's exactly what you're getting here from Andrew, the winner of a full set of new Golf Pride CPX grips.
Andrew has given his new CPX grips a pretty thorough testing, and I enjoyed reading his review immensely. It also sounds like Andrew has found an ideal set of grips for his game, calling them "the perfect balance of everything you'd want in a grip with tackiness that's second to none."
In his own words, here's what Andrew (@Drew_Be_Do on twitter) thinks about his new Golf Pride CPX grips.
Just a little back story. I was gaming the GP MCC+4, but after a while decided I didn’t like them as much as I was hoping to. The reasons were discomfort and the feeling they'd get “slick” in the dead of a South Florida summer (and yes, I wipe them down after every round). So because of that, I switched to Lampkin ST+2 Hybrid and to be honest, loved them and thought they held up better throughout the year.
When I saw a press release from Golf Pride for the CPX grip, I knew I had to give one a try. So once they released I bought one and put it on my 6 iron. After one swing, I was impressed. And thanks to your giveaway, I was able to re-grip my entire set (driver, 3w, 5w, 4i-PW, 50°, 54° and 58°).
Now that I have some experience with them (3 range sessions and 6-7 rounds) I can say the Golf Pride CPX grips hit all marks they said these would; especially easy on the hands and without loosing feedback.
The grip is soft on my hands and the tackiness is second to none. No more hand fatigue or roughed up skin on my hands at the end of a round. The texture and pattern on the grip does not give it a weird feeling, it just feels like a normal grip. I also had no issues when I decided to go gloveless for shots in and around the green.
Even though they are a softer grip, I still get good feedback from the club on a miss hits and bad shots which is important as I am trying to improve my game.
My biggest concern was how they’d do with south Florida’s heat and humidity in the summer. And I haven’t had any slippage issues. I haven’t encountered the random rain shower while playing yet, but I suspect they’d do just fine.
I wipe the grips down after every round with a wet towel and they are still just as tacky as when I first put them on. Some of the paint seems to have worn off a bit. When I inspected it up close, it looks like it’s only paint and the grip itself is good. Time will tell how they hold up.
If I had to put all of my thoughts into one sentence I'd say the CPX grip seems like it has the perfect balance of everything you’d want in a grip.
Thanks again Pete for all of your content, responsiveness, and giveaways. The golf world is a better place because of people like yourself!
