It's common in the golf industry for companies to say they won this tournament or that tournament when the player uses its clubs. Sometimes it can only be one club. And other times still that club was not really instrumental in the win.
When Matt Fitzpatrick won the US Open earlier today at The Country Club however, Mitsubishi Golf shafts played an absolutely crucial role in his breakout major championship victory.
Fitzpatrick used a Mitsubishi Tensei AV 65 in his Titleist driver, a Mitsubishi Tensei AV 75 in his Ping 3 wood, and a Mitsubishi Tensei CK 80 in his Ping 7 wood.
For the week, Fitzpatrick was 2nd in Strokes Gained off the Tee (4.78) and 16th in Driving Distance (309.2 yards). And on Championship Sunday at Brookline when pressure was at it's highest and a place in history at stake, Fitzpatrick hit 11 of 14 fairways (second best in the field).
That's a clip of 79 percent by the way, and compared to the field average of 54 percent a big reason Fitzpatrick became a U.S. Open champion at Brookline.
