Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ Blue Driver Shaft Review: PGAPappas Winner Guest Review

Fujikura Golf shafts have been the most played driver and wood shafts in professional golf for six consecutive years and with the expansion of their new Ventus VeloCore+ shafts their dominance this year is unprecedented.  Ventus shafts were used by the winners of all four men's major championships is year and VeloCore+ has really taken the entire golf world (professional and amateur) by storm.

The winner of my recent Fujikura VeloCore+ driver shaft giveaway says he's hitting drives four yards longer on average with his new VeloCore+ Blue and is reaching distances up to 280 yards (something he's never accomplished before).

In his own words here's what Kyle (@Just_Peebs on X) thinks of his new Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ Blue shaft.

I want to thank Pete and the companies he partners with for all his amazing giveaways. These contests are incredibly generous and giveus mere mortals a chance at gaming tour-level products. Pete is one of the best reviewers out there, and I have valued his opinions on the products he tests. He is incredibly knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to ensure that these products are going to give us the best chance at shooting better scores.

I love to constantly tinker with my golf equipment, frequently changing driver settings and experimenting with different driver head/shaft combinations. Before winning the Ventus Blue +, I was gaming an OG Ventus Red 6s, playing at 45.5 inches, but I usually choked down a bit. I was fitted into the Ventus Red about 3 years ago, and it has honestly been the most consistent driver shaft I have ever used. With that said, I have been wanting to try a longer, lighter driver shaft for some time, but I was not sure what brand or profile I wanted to test. Winning this contest gave me the perfect opportunity to test my theory that I could pick up some distance using a driver shaft playing the maximum allowed length and lighter than I’m used to. I went with the Ventus Blue Velocore+ 5s and built it to play 46 inches.

I used to game the TaylorMade Burner Superfast driver back in the day, and I am pretty sure it was over 46 inches and lighter than usual. I had some success with that driver, and my thinking was to sort of recreate a new version of it for myself. I built the shaft with an All-Fit adapter so that I can test and bring this shaft with me across multipledriver head platforms. I used their red adaptor to give it a USA theme, which I think looks smart.

The first time I had the chance to test out the build with my gamer head (a Callaway Rogue Max LS) it did not go great. I had a hard time with club-face awareness. But it felt fast and seemed like the ball was flying a touch further. I went down to Florida to play in the member-guest tournament at my dad’s club but left the new shaft behind. I used ShipSticks and when I returned from my trip my clubs had not made it back.  So for my next round I had to get on the course and use my backup set and I put the Ventus blue in my trusty 2016 TaylorMade M2. Although the wind was blowing with 40mph gusts I drove the ball very well all day. And this gave me renewed confidence in my theory. I was excited to do more testing.

This year I decided to take off work early every Wednesday to put more time into my game. I ended each range session for a month, switching between my gamer shaft and the Ventus VeloCore+ Blue. It took some time to determine the correct distance to stand away from the ball and get accustomed to the added length. However by the end of the first month I had found my groove with the new Ventus and was really starting to hit great drives. Even though my gamer OG Red and the Blue have different profiles the ball was coming out in a similar window and maybe even a touch higher.

The feel from the Ventus VeloCore+ Blue is an effortless power with a distinct whip in the middle of the shaft. This feeling, combined with seeing the ball in a similar window that I'm used to, made me want to swing even faster. And this VeloCore+ shaft can handle anything you throw at it while still performing at slower speeds. I think it is a testament to the quality of materials and attention to detail from Fujikura that they can have different shafts with different profiles that perform with incredible consistency.

I gamed the Ventus VeloCore+ Blue all summer and I can say confidently I'm seeing more distance. My average distance went from 258 total to 262 and I am hitting drives that reach 280 yards now, more than I ever have before. My driving accuracy did go down early in the summer as I was still getting used to the shaft. Last season I hit 52% of fairways and this season I hit 45%. So I did give up some accuracy early on for the added distance. But the accuracy came back the more I played VeloCore+.

Overall I think this shaft is extremely consistent and incredibly easy to swing. In my opinion Fujikura’s Ventus lineup are some of the best shafts in golf right now. The tolerances on these shafts are incredibly tight. The updated graphics on the Velocore + shafts are a homerun. I love the matte finish over the gloss. And the lighter blue makes it stand out and makes me feel like it's the old school Grafalloy Blue driver shaft. I am glad I decided to try this longer, lighter build, and it will add another piece to my golf arsenal.

I am going to game the Ventus VeloCore+ Blue most of the time moving forward but if there is one course I play that is very tight and I will likely switch back to my OG Ventus Red to gain more accuracy. Anyone who wants to try what I did or is in the market for a new driver shaft should test the new Ventus VeloCore+ Blue shaft.

Thanks for a great review Kyle!  Hitting your drives out to distances where you've never been before has to be an awesome feeling.  And I'd expect the more you play this Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ Blue the more you'll get accustomed to that more active feel you mentioned and dial in accuracy even more as well.
