You've seen and heard about the new Bridgestone Golf VS Prototype balls which were revealed last month.  And VS Proto has been politely breaking the internet.  It's all still very hush-hush, but we do know VS Proto are the culmination of four years of development, with more than 20 new materials investigated, and over 240 prototype builds designed and tested.  And with that kind of advanced research efforts, could VS Proto be a significant breakthrough in golf ball performance?

If Bridgestone's Tour staff is a good barometer the VS Proto is going to flip the global golf ball light switch and cue worldwide gasps of, "Wait?  WHAT!?"  Jason Day has gained more than 9 yards off the tee using VS Proto.  He's also increased his driver accuracy by almost 9-percent.  My guy Chris Gotterup has been first in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee since putting VS Proto in play.  Matt Kuchar put the VS Proto in play and just today dominated at the PNC Championship winning by seven strokes.  Even the GOAT, Tiger Woods has personally confirmed his own ball speed jumps and distance gains with VS Proto.

I've been hitting all four VS Proto models (Black, Blue, Red, and Green) the last month or so and have a few impressions for you.  First,, these are the longest Bridgestone balls I've ever played.  Seriously, all of them.  And I'm talking about driver AND irons.  I can't really compare VS Proto head to head with any particular Bridgestone Golf ball as we don't know anything about the VS Proto core or material or specs at the moment.

I usually play the Bridgestone Tour B X and can tell you VS Proto Black has given me more distance off the tee, more spin into the greens, and has the absolute best mix of control, and distance of any Bridgestone ball I've ever played.  Tour B X is still a phenomenal ball.  But VS Proto pretty much leaves my Tour B X crying in the corner.

I won't deep dive into the differences I experienced with all four VS Proto models just yet here.  But VS Proto Black, Blue, Red, and Green all seem to have different performance priorities that obviously apply even beyond different swing speeds as I was hitting all of them myself.  VS Proto Blue and Green were extremely soft feeling.  And greenside spin with both was absolutely phenomenal.  VS Black and Red both had the lowest spin off the tee for me.  And Black had the best overall accuracy from the top to bottom of my bag.  Each of the four VS Proto models are definitely tailored to different swing characteristics, types, and preferences.

I think these Bridgestone VS Proto are definitely going to shake things up in the golf ball world.  And they might even flip over the whole damn table.
