Callaway Introduces Quantum Family of Drivers, Fairway Woods, Hybrids, and Irons: Unfair Distance, Zero Shame

Callaway Golf has announced their new family of Quantum drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons.  A new face combining titanium and carbon fiber creates ball speeds that will have you running out of fairway.  Evolved AI face mapping creates sweet spots with their own zip codes.  And that's just scratching the surface.

Callaway focused on maximizing ball speeds over a larger area of the face with their new Quantum line and particularly with the driver.  They looked at Strokes Gained: Driving statistics on Tour and found that distance is almost twice as valuable as accuracy.  The Quantum line still addresses and uses innovative technologies to improve forgiveness and accuracy.  But the bottom line with driver is forgiveness saves shots but distance shaves strokes.

When you're trying to improve speed in a golf club there are usually tradeoffs.  Sometimes it's CT rules, other times you have material constraints.  There are limits on what you can do with speed.  That is, unless you're Callaway Golf.  And Callaway has spent years of research and development to create a breakthrough new face technology they are calling the Tri-Force Face.

New Quantum Driver Tri-Force Face Technology

We've seen drivers with titanium faces.  We've seen drivers with carbon fiber faces.  But we've never seen a face with titanium and carbon fiber until now.  And Callaway's Tri-Force face actually maximizes the strengths of each material while minimizing the weaknesses of both.  It's a technology the golf industry has never seen before.  And it uses three multi-material parts that are fully integrated as a whole to deliver maximum ball speed performance that Callaway says is unmatched.

How the Tri-Force Face Works

Tri-Force technology is built around what happens to your ball at impact.  When you hit a golf ball there is face deflection.  At the rear of the face material stretches inwards and is under tension.  At the front of the face material is compressed by the force of your strike.

Carbon Fiber is a material that excels in tension performance when it's being stretched.  However this same material is unable to withstand compression force without breaking or failing unless it's made very thick.  And a thick face will limit ball speed and forgiveness.

Titanium on the other hand is very lightweight, thin, and strong and withstands compression much better than carbon fiber.  However all titanium is not created equal and a problem with titanium faces is its ability to withstand constant forceful impact.  It's a durability issue which can lead to inconsistent ball speed, spin, and overall performance.

And what Callaway discovered with Quantum was you can use titanium and carbon fiber and position these materials in face construction that enhances their strength and mitigates their weaknesses.  Specifically, you get more ball speed and durability from the titanium and more reinforcement and energy transfer from the carbon fiber allowing the entire face to flex and recover faster.

Titanium Evolved with Callaway AI

Callaway's commitment to AI design is unmatched and its benefits are unmatched.  And with Quantum Callaway has used AI again to improve a variety of material and design characteristics that's significantly improved performance.

First, Callaway was able to make their unique Quantum titanium face 14-percent thinner than it was in their Elyte drivers.  It's their thinnest and fastest face in company history.  And as we all know thinner drives more ball speed.  But as mentioned above it needs to maintain durability and that's where the carbon fiber reinforcement in the back comes into play.

The Poly Mesh that Holds it All Together

So Poly Mesh is a military grade polymer than holds the titanium and carbon fiber together.  It's been used in the military to reinforce structures and protect anyone inside from materials that splinter or sheer.  And the benefit of this Poly Mesh is its ability to allow the titanium and carbon fiber in Quantum to not only retain their specific material strengths but also enhance them.

Most driver construction uses some kind of glue to hold material together.  But even high quality premium glues are brittle and rigid.  And this diminishes ball speed, it reduces energy transfer.  It's ultimately a reduction of driver performance.  And Callaway tests and designs confirmed Poly Mesh allows for a 17-percent ore responsive face with Quantum.  Which ultimately means better energy transfer, more speed, and more consistent speed.

Keeping Their Eye on the Complete Picture

Callaway accomplished their primary goal of making Quantum faster and longer.  But you can't lose sight of other variables in the process, like spin for example.  Again going back to Callaway's commitment to AI design, Quantum has benefited from Callaway's improved AI models and coding.  Callaway has learned more about how materials and slight nuances to them deflect and absorb stress differently.

And with Quantum Callaway has been able to locally optimize micro-deflections across the entire face which has led to improvement and greater consistency of launch and spin conditions on off-enter strikes.  Callaway has essentially opened up Quantum's sweet spot to its largest area ever in a family of drivers.  So you're getting more optimal spin and launch and speed no matter where you hit it off the face.

Quantum Driver Models

There are five models in the new Callaway Quantum driver family that are designed to appeal to the different needs of golfers.  And one of the exciting bits of news here is the Quantum Triple Diamond Max will be available at launch (rather than a later release).  And I know how much all of you have loved the Callaway Triple Diamond Max drivers in the past.  I'm going to touch a little on each of the models below.

Quantum Max

Quantum Max is designed for speed and built for consistency.  It pairs the Tri-Force Face with next-gen AI optimized face mapping, adjustability, and a confidence inspiring profile to deliver total control off the tee.  It's the model that will fit the widest variety of golfers from Tour pros to higher handicaps.

Common to all new Quantum drivers is also a new Discreet Weight System.  Weight tracks and sliders can be heavy and cause sound issues and performance tradeoffs.  With Callaway's Discreet Weight System the weights now sit under a sole cap for up to 10 yards of shot shape correction.  You get replaceable 1 and 9 gram weights for shot shaping in Quantum Max that lets you adjust for neutral or draw settings.

Quantum Max D

If your impact area is all over the face or you have a preference for maximum forgiveness or higher launch Quantum Max D is for you.  It's designed for easy launch and powerful speed without sacrificing control.

Weight has been strategically added to the heel section to of Quantum Max D to also help promote a slight draw bias for slice reduction.

Quantum Triple Diamond

Triple Diamond is the horse on Tour for Callaway.  It's the most compact shape with the lowest launch and spin.  Callaway Tour players Xander Schauffele, Sam Burns, and Rose Zhang have all already Quantum Triple Diamond in their bags.  This Tour inspired and compact shape will deliver penetrating ball flights with the ultimate in precision speed and control.

Quantum Triple Diamond is also the best TD model driver Callaway has ever designed for another reason.  More and more players are finding TD drivers easier to hit than expected and Callaway wanted to open up this models to an even larger group of players.  And the neutral and fade settings accomplish this by giving you more shot shape options.  Callaway's Smoke Triple Diamond gave you a fade shot shape option.  The Elyte Triple Diamond gave you a neutral shape shot option.  But with Quantum Triple Diamond you'll have both.

Quantum Triple Diamond Max

The Quantum Triple Diamond Max has a similar Tour inspired shape to the Quantum Triple Diamond and a similar ball flight with neutral and fade adjustability.

But it gives you a tough more spin and forgiveness in a 460 CC head.  Quantum Triple Diamond Max (like all the Quantum drivers) is also engineered with full AI face mapping for maximum stability and control.

Quantum Max Fast

Quantum Max Fast is built to make speed and launch effortless for players who benefit from a lighter overall club (it's 15-percent lighter than the standard Max driver) with a high-MOI design and a shallower face to help generate speed.

New Callaway Quantum Fairway Woods and Hybrids

Callaway has also been the best selling fairway wood in the industry multiple times over the last several years.  But not one to rest on its laurels the Quantum family of fairway woods has been made more explosive, more adaptable, and really just easier to play than ever.

Callaway focused on three areas of improvement with the Quantum fairway woods: consistent launch, improved impact location, and perfect gapping.  And the technology they employ to accomplish this is shared with the Quantum hybrids so you don't have to choose between tech benefits and still have the same kinds of performance benefits and gains with both.

Speed Wave 2.0 Tech

Speed Wave 2.0 technology basically enhances energy transfer where you need it most.  Callaway thinned out the internal structure so these Quantum fairway woods and hybrids store and return more energy deeper and lower in the club.  And that gives you better speed by maximizing face flex and also more consistent launch on misses low on the face.

New Step Sole Design

The advanced new Step Sole Design in the Quantum fairway woods and hybrids reduces turf contact on the sole for more efficient strikes and consistent center faced contact.  Callaway strategically removed material on the sole that can cause bouncing through delivery.

And this has resulted in the leading edge and face remaining square into impact and moving more smoothly through the turf.  Callaway testing of the Quantum fairway woods and hybrids also showed the sole has improved overall impact with more swings from various lies being closer to center impact.

New Optifit 4 Hosel

With the new Optifit 4 Hosel you have seven independent loft and lie options with your Quantum fairway woods and hybrids that can be adjusted flat or upright by 2 degrees.

And no matter what your unique swing is like this will help get your start lines where you want them resulting in more accurate shots from anywhere on the course.

Quantum Fairway Wood Models

There are four models in the new Callaway Quantum fairway wood family and just like with the different Quantum drivers each is designed to appeal to the different needs of different players.  I'll touch a little on the differences of each model below.

Quantum Max

Quantum Max is designed for easy, high launch and built-in forgiveness, giving players more confidence on every swing.  Its shallow face design enhances consistency and the neutral CG makes it the most versatile fairway wood model in the new Quantum line and the ideal choice for the widest rang of golfer skill.

All the Quantum fairway wood models employ Callaway's next generation AI Optimized Face Designs for consistent performance across the entire face.  Literally every part of the face is precisely tuned through advanced AI modeling to optimize speed, spin, launch, and accuracy over various impact positions.

Quantum Max D

Quantum Max D is the easiest fairway wood to hit in the new lineup with high launch and maximum forgiveness.  Its larger footprint and shallower face promote easy launch and a natural, square delivery in a confidence inspiring shape.  Max D also has strategically added weight I the heel to promote a slight draw bias.

Quantum Triple Diamond

Quantum Triple Diamond is the most compact, Tour validated shape I the lineup with the deepest face and neutral CG to give better payers the control and workability they want.  TD delivers speed, penetrating launch, and optimized spin for absolute precision.

Quantum Max Fast

For players who benefit from an overall lighter setup Quantum Max Fast is the lightest fairway wood in the new line.  From head to shaft to grip every component is engineered to make swinging this easier.  A high MOI and shallow face profile encourages easy launch, higher flight, and consistent contact.

Quantum Hybrid Models

There are three models in the new Callaway Quantum Hybrid lineup and they all share the same technologies as the Quantum Fairway Woods, namely Speed Wave 2,0, the new Step Sole Design, and new Optifit 4 Hosel.  Each of the hybrids (like the drivers and fairway woods) are designed with an AI Optimized face for consistent speed, spin, launch, and accuracy over all impact locations.

Quantum Max

Quantum Max is a clean, midsized hybrid built for players looking for balanced performance in an iron-like hybrid.  With a neutral CG and moderate face height it offers a versatile mix of launch, forgiveness, and shot control making it a reliable choice at the top of your bag for most players.

Max OS

Quantum Max OS is ideal for golfers who struggle with a right miss or need help getting the ball airborne.  It features an oversized, draw-biased shape with a high MOI for easy launch and maximum forgiveness.

Max Fast

Quantum Max Fast is the lightest hybrid in the new lineup and but for players who benefit from a lighter overall setup.  Like with the Fast drivers and fairway woods every component is engineered to make swinging the club easier.  A high MOI and shallow face encourage easy launch, higher flight, and consistent contact.

New Callaway Quantum Irons

If you want to say Callaway's new drivers are a Quantum Leap in speed for drivers, then you can very well also say Callaway's new irons are a Quantum Leap in accuracy for irons.  Speed improvements are certainly engineered into the new Callaway Quantum irons.  But the main focus for Callaway here wasn't on pure speed per se.  Instead it was about maximizing speed across the face and more importantly maximizing forgiveness (and consistent carry) across the face.  And a big technology to accomplish this was Callaway's Modern 360 Degree Undercut Cavity, an entirely new construction.

Modern 360 Degree Undercut Cavity

The new Quantum irons cavity design is an advanced two-piece design that provided more perimeter weighting and  fully exposed undercut for additional flex where your misses need it most.

You

A traditional undercut cavity has the face welded on and the hosel attached separately.  With the Modern 360 Degree Undercut Cavity the face and hosel are one piece.  And the back of the iron is welded on instead which makes the face more flexible, allows it to store and redeliver more energy, and retain speed consistency better (especially low face performance).

Progressive Tri-Sole Design

Progressive Tri-Sole Design technology is typically something you see in Callaway's better player irons.  However testing has continued to show players of all abilities, skill levels, and swing types benefit from the smooth turf interaction and efficient speed retention it produces.

As the name implies, the sole geometry is engineered and designed in three unique locations across the sole of the iron and this geometry also adapts from long irons to wedges.  Ultimately Progressive Tri-Sole Design is all about keeping the lead edge of your irons from grabbing or digging so you can get in and out of the turf.  It also has been shown to promote cleaner, more consistent contact and improved impact positions.

Quantum Iron Models

There are three models in the new Callaway Quantum iron family and each model is designed for the reality of our specific type of need.

Quantum Max

Quantum Max inspires confidence with powerful speed, consistent carry, and forgiving performance across the face.  And the clean, modern shape helps golfers hit more solid shots and score with control.

All Quantum irons also use Callaway's Next Generation AI-Optimized Face to deliver faster ball speeds and more consistent launch, spin, and dispersion by intelligently shaping the face across all impact zones which effectively increases the sweet spot.

In addition all models employ urethane microspheres to enhance sound and feel at impact by absorbing unwanted vibration.  This creates a softer, forged-like sensation at impact in a high-speed game improvement iron head.

Quantum Max OS

Quantum Max OS blends maximum forgiveness, powerful speed, and consistent carry in an oversized shape designed to help golfers hit it more solid.

Quantum Max Fast

Quantum Max Fast is a lightweight, easy-to-launch iron that helps you get more height, speed, and distance.

This model is designed to be fast and forgiving while also promoting higher launch for moderate swing speed players.
