Wilson has officially announced the modernization of a timeless classic with the release of the all-new Wilson Staff Model irons. Firestone Country Club, renowned as one of North America’s most historic venues for championship golf, is embarking on a project to enhance its West Course and renaming the layout the Fazio Course.
Spearheaded by Fazio Golf Design, the project will include the removal of 18 bunkers and renovating the remaining 51. Several bunkers will be reshaped, and the Better Billy Bunker system will be employed in all for optimal drainage and reduction of washouts during inclement weather.

The final step is hand-polishing to deliver the perfect satin finish. We see it every week on Tour. Players hitting wedges to spots with surgical precision. Holing out from greenside locations with abracadabra ease. And putting spin on shots that make the ball look like a Yoyo trick.
Swing technique of course goes a long way in pulling off these shots. But make no mistake about it, all wedges are not created equal. As the golf business continues to surge coming out of the worldwide shutdown from COVID-19, Golf Datatech, LLC, the golf industry’s leading independent market research firm for retail sales, consumer and trade trends, today announced U.S. retail golf equipment sales for the 3rd Quarter of 2020 surpassed the $1 billion mark. This represents the first-time sales in July, August and September have ever exceeded $1 billion in Q3, and represents the second highest quarter of all time (Q2 2008 sales = $1.013 billion).
Golf Datatech also reported that Q3 golf equipment sales for 2020 were up a staggering 42% over the same time period in 2019, led by strong showings in golf bags, wedges, and irons.

The USGA today announced that Anchorage Golf Course in Anchorage, Alaska, will host the 60th U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur. The championship is scheduled for July 30-Aug. 4, 2022 and will mark the first time the USGA has taken one of its championships to the state of Alaska. Upon completion, the USGA will have hosted a championship in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia.
“It’s a monumental occasion for us to bring a championship to Alaska, something that has been a long time coming,” said Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA. “Players from all over the country dream of becoming USGA champions, so it is important we bring our events to all corners of the United States to expose golfers and golf fans to the inspiration and competitiveness of our championships. With a population in the wild only just reaching double figures and around 50 living in a protected environment, the King Cheetah is the rarest cat on the African continent. With its special colors and markings, it was once thought to be a separate species. However, the King Cheetah is now recognized as the same animal as the more common cheetah – the fastest animal on the planet capable of speeds up to 120 kph/70 mph – but with a pronounced fur pattern mutation in its thicker coat.
On the heels of the U.S. Open, golf’s second major of 2020, Golf Datatech, LLC, the golf industry’s leading independent market research firm for retail sales, consumer and trade trends, has announced that U.S. retail golf equipment sales for August 2020 were up nearly 32% over the same period in 2019, exceeding the previous all-time high August (2006), by 15%.
In total, U.S. golf retail equipment sales for August 2020 were $331 million, compared to August 2019, which were $251 million, and the previous record year of August 2006, which were $287 million. Additionally, five equipment categories, set all-time records for August: balls, irons, wedges, bags and gloves. Overall, golf bags were the best performing equipment category in August, up 55% vs. August 2019, while YTD bag sales are up 5%.
The USGA announced that CEO Mike Davis will leave the organization by the end of 2021 to pursue a life-long passion for golf course design and construction.

SIK, The Fastest Growing Putter Company in Golf, would like to congratulate PGA Tour Staff Professional, Bryson DeChambeau, on his victory at the 120th U.S Open held at the legendary Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York last weekend.
DeChambeau’s final round was the best of the day by three, and he was the only player to finish the tournament under par. He fired rounds of 69, 68, 70 and 67 to capture a six-stroke victory over the field. This was the eighth win and first major of his PGA TOUR career that began in 2017.
Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and now Bryson DeChambeau. They are the three golfers who have captured an NCAA individual title, a U.S. Amateur and a U.S. Open. DeChambeau joined that esteemed fraternity on Sunday at Winged Foot Golf Club with a performance for the ages on what many consider one of the game’s most demanding championship tests.
DeChambeau carded a final-round, 3-under-par 67 to earn a decisive six-stroke victory over 54-hole leader and wunderkind Matthew Wolff, who was vying to become the first U.S. Open rookie to win the title since 20-year-old amateur Francis Ouimet in 1913.
Some players appeared calm and care-free. Others looked poised and determined. And there were also a few who already seemed confused and rattled. It was Wednesday at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, and final preparations and strategies were being made before it all starts for real tomorrow morning.
