Bridgestone Golf recently released their new e6 golf balls, and I've had the chance to put them in play a few rounds to get some impressions and feedback for you.
The e6 is a 2-piece ball with a larger and softer core than the previous generation e6, and also uses advanced dimple technology and aerodynamics for maximum distance off the tee and added forgiveness with the long and mid irons.
Compared to the e12 Soft and Tour B RXS I found e6 to be a clearly higher launching and more forgiving ball. Spin with e6 on both driver and with long and mid-irons is noticeably less (as you'd expect with a non-urethane cover). And that kind of straight distance means less rattle around the trees noise off the tee.
On short approaches, pitches, and slower half swings, spin between e6 and RXS was surprisingly more similar. e6 does not give you the same hop and stop RXS performance by any stretch of the imagination, but it still provided decent green side spin. On full swings (as you'd expect) RXS has noticeably more spin.
If you value the straight distance e6 was designed for off the tee and on long approaches above all else however, it's really just a matter of adjusting your game to the different kind of spin e6 delivers.
e6 was noticeably softer than e12 Soft and RXS with driver and all irons (more so with irons), but not rubbery feeling at all. Putting feel differences between all the balls are much less pronounced, all similarly soft.
Overall, e6 is a great ball for slower swing speeds and anyone who wants more straight distance and speed off the tee, as well as those who like playing a bump-and-run short game.
It's a great winter or cold weather ball as well, and you certainly can't deny the e6 value at a very competitive price point.
