New PXG Xtreme Golf Balls Designed to be The One Ball that Does it All for Players of All Levels

PXG, the golf equipment and apparel company founded by American entrepreneur and philanthropist Bob Parsons, has expanded its on-course offerings to include game-changing golf balls.  Fueled by a desire to solve a problem for consumers, the dreaded choice between distance and control, PXG developed PXG Xtreme Golf Balls to be the one ball that does it all for players of all levels.

Since its inception, PXG has disrupted the golf industry with its innovative approach to research and development, renouncing traditional product release cycles and placing a premium on performance.  PXG has applied the same proven processes to creating golf ball technology, and after nearly a decade of research and development, the company has released PXG Xtreme Golf Balls ahead of the 2023 golf season.

“PXG is first and foremost a research and development company,” PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons stated.  “Everything we do starts with a question, ‘Can we make a better product?’  For a long time, despite our best efforts, we weren’t sure if we could make a better golf ball.  But we didn’t stop trying.  Adding a new partner to expand our engineering capabilities and leveraging years of data and testing, we are pleased and proud to finally introduce a golf ball good enough to earn the PXG name.”

High C.O.R Polybutadiene Core

The U.S.G.A. standards dictate that a “regulation” ball can not have an initial velocity (i.e. the speed off the club) exceeding 255 feet per second (250 feet per second with a 2% tolerance) and PXG has pushed right up to that limit.  PXG Xtreme Golf Balls feature an explosive three-piece construction colored red, white, and blue in honor of PXG’s American roots and a seamless 338 dimple pattern.

The high coefficient of restitution (C.O.R.) polybutadiene core is designed for high-speed performance.  A firm ionomer mantle layer further increases speed for maximum distance off the tee.  And the soft urethane outer cover is injection molded and maximizes spin for green-grabbing control.

338 Dimple Pattern

C.O.R., clubhead speed, angle of trajectory, and ball dimple pattern generally are the main factors in determining how far a ball will travel when hit.  And the PXG Xtreme dimple pattern is engineered to deliver aerodynamic characteristics that maximize distance with the driver while producing a high trajectory with optimal spin with irons and wedges.

Early in the Xtreme golf ball development PXG did a lot of CAD modeling to test various dimple symmetries for flight consistency.   PXG tested different dimple patterns, angles, and depths (with robots and actual players) to ensure this three-piece golf ball delivers quality, consistency, and performance with every shot, from every lie, for every golfer.

Distinctive Alignment Aid

The new PXG Xtreme golf ball also presents a distinctive, enhanced crosshairs alignment aid to help players easily line up their balls and sink more putts.

PXG Xtreme Golf Ball Testing (Inside the Numbers)

A few interesting observations and background about the testing (as shown in the chart and graph below).  First, PXG tested against the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls with the goal of outperforming them.  According to PXG one of the more specific goals was to combine the best of both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x into one package with the PXG Xtreme, and PXG is extremely happy with the testing results as shown below.  PXG also said they saw similar comparative results for players with swing speeds ranging from 80 to 115 mph.

The overall compression of the PXG Xtreme is 108, which lies right in between the Pro V1 (105) and Pro V1x (111).  The Shore D (or hardness rating) of the cover is 53 (the Pro V1 is 60).  And of note regarding the three-piece design, PXG also designed and tested four-piece construction balls however they did not test as well as this three-piece Xtreme ball.

PXG Xtreme Golf Balls are now available at a price of $39.99 through the company’s retail stores and hubs, over the phone with PXG Player Support, and on www.PXG.com.

PXG Xtreme golf balls will also be sold on Amazon starting in March.
