Mizuno ST-G 220 Driver Review: 2021 PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway DAY 6

Bombination.  In a word, that's how to describe the new Mizuno ST-G 220 driver.  A damn beast to be honest.  And with all-out adjustability (featuring two movable weights and three movable weight tracks) the ST-G 220 will also be wildly effective and incredibly versatile for a wide range of players and skills.  Mizuno is making that holy grail of added distance with more forgiveness a legit reality with the ST-G 220.

And one of you will win your very own ST-G 220 driver in my PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway.  You can choose whatever stock shaft you want, whatever flex you want.  And you can see all the options here.

Like we do through the entire 12 Days, I'm going to share some of my impressions playing ST-G 220, and hit on a few particulars that really make the this Mizuno's finest adjustable driver to date.  I've been playing the ST-G 220 since September reviewing it for all of you, and there's been lots to love.

Let's start with adjustability.  The Mizuno ST-G 220 presents seemingly endless opportunities to dial in this driver for different swing speeds and shot preferences.  And these adjustments affect launch, spin, and stability all independently of each other.

As an example, when you put both weights (11 grams each) in the back track, the Mizuno ST-G driver becomes incredibly stable and forgiving.  I found in this position ST-G was actually more stable and forgiving than the ultra-forgiving previous gen ST-X driver.  When I put both weights in the toe or heel tracks I saw left or right direction bias of 15 to 20 yards, which is massive.

And it's not just real performance impact that makes the Mizuno ST-G 220 adjustability probably the best in the business now.  It's also the options you have because of the three movable weight tracks.  You can create left or right bias direction without changing spin or stability.  On the flip side you can create more or less stability and spin without affecting direction bias.  ST-G 220 configurations truly allow for just about any shot preference or tendency you're looking for or want to promote.

The Mizuno ST-G 220 also has a face that's more forgiving over a wider hitting area giving you faster ball speeds on mishits.  It's simply a hotter face in more areas than the previous gen, and low strike mishits are particularly better both in direction and distance retained.  ST-G 220 is plain and simple a more stable driver that makes your mishits behave with predictable and playable performance.

In terms of feel and sound, the new Mizuno ST-G 220 has a strong, deep, thwack sound.  It's not at all tinny like you sometimes had in previous drivers.  The ST-G 220 feel is very compact, solid, and strong at impact, and incredibly satisfying to swing.

Overall the new Mizuno ST-G 220 is a remarkably stable driver with clear distance gains over the previous gen.  ST-G 220 is also a more efficient driver thanks to the wide-ranging adjustability and improved face that holds line and retains distance better on mishits over a larger hitting area.  And seriously, who doesn't want that?  Have had a lot of fun hitting this baby.  Job well done Mizuno.

Remember you always have three different ways to win the daily gifts in my giveaway this year.  On twitter just retweet my giveaway announcement and follow all; on Instagram repost, mention in your story, or like, and follow all; and here on my blog leave a comment in the section below in the daily review/giveaway/Letters from Santa articles.

These gifts are great prizes of course, but also some of the best equipment and gear in their class that I played and reviewed this season.  And I hope these mini reviews and recaps give you an idea of why I rate them so highly.

Merry Christmas all!
